Any idea if they're going to fix the awful chat system?

This game would probably start getting more players in again if the chat system was half decent. Maybe add mailboxes and pm's into the game. Also is there any news of a town being added in one of the DLCs?

The chat system does indeed suck. This is what happens when you design for a console and force it on PC players. We've been told it's going to get better, but we'll have to see if that ever happens.

Mailboxes would be a plus. PM's already exist, though with the craptastic chat system, it's often hard to tell that you got one.

I'm not sure that you'll ever see an actual 'town'. There are several areas with vendors, if that's what you're looking for. There is no single social hub such as you'd likely find in an MMORPG, but then Defiance isn't an MMORPG, so that's to be expected.

Given the rather poor state of optimization, a social hub of that nature would likely be a PR nightmare, once everyone started crashing or otherwise lagging out, etc... Muir, Iron Demon Ranch and the E-Rep camp all suffer from this to one degree or another already. Combining the populations of those areas on a busy day would be a disaster with the current lack of optimization and PC graphics options to help mitigate the impact.

Your assessment of the state of things is correct. They're even now seeming to down play what they were more boldly stating for the last 4 months for the UI/chat changes too so I wouldnt trust it to be anything of significant improvement. I mean, an old game like team fortress 2 can do a better job of its chat system, its rather telling.

they stated in their live stream that it was suppose to come out in patch 1.025, that was 3-4 weeks ago, the patch has come and gone. and we get another empty promise. starting to get annoyed.

it will come with the DLC I'm pretty sure, and that is sometime in August.... if we're lucky.
