That's pretty much why I'm liking how FFXIV is shaping up to be. It's going against a lot of the trends over in the Western world of MMOs since Square Enix isn't focused on entertaining just the US/EU regions, and there's enough action-based/instant-gratification MMOs out there that people can go play... >.> Kind of ironic to say that here, but basically I like the idea that there'll be a deep game that I can invest a lot of time in and don't have to worry about it losing its subscription or caving in to a bunch of whiny kids who want it to be like TERA or GW2 or whatever new trendy MMO comes out.
On-Topic: Yes, a ton of people still play this. I've actually been playing a lot more recently than I have since I started up the game shortly after launch (pre-ordered but I didn't have a stable Internet until a few weeks after it launched) where I'd mostly just play very casually and only poke on for episodic content. So I guess it helps that I still have a lot to check out in the game like the co-op maps, challenges, etc. Mostly been doing the story and episodic stuff + emergencies/arkfalls so far, and I just got access to San Francisco like a week or two ago.
