Could be interesting for the future. I ignored Game Of Thrones for a long time and then started watching it. Once I got hooked I HAD to buy all 5 books.
I am already hooked here lol.. Would not mind reading some back story stuff - since it always seems to fill in the blanks.

Even with higher technology, light does not travel any faster. So, it would not be plausible for them to see any signs of technology or civilization that long ago. Also, if you think about it, they wouldn't just be seeing 5,000 years ago, but 5,000 plus the number of light years their home system was from Earth. So, the actual date may predate Sumerian times.

If they Votans had faster than light capabilities they wouldn't have taken 5,000 years to go ~10,000 light years. They traveled fast but not that fast.

The universe is definitely interesting, i'm seeing the show itself almost what books usually are to game lore. Here's hoping that the few times i stop playing to watch the show it's really only to immerse myself even more.
