not really why go after venezuala when you can go after 3 neighbouring country's (Iraq, Iran & trading with Saudi Arabia) and get more oil in the long run (assuming they intend to bleed reserves dry) and establish permanent military positions helping to keep the occupied country trading in the petrodollar rather than switching to an alternative currency or form of trade (such as gold) that may in turn have an impact on the usd and cause it collapse

gold was merely and example of a tradable commodity you could always look into what happened with Iraq after they started to trade exclusively in euros in 2000, also more recently Iran have switched over to a gold based currency like Libya had attempted to years ago. so other countrys getting out of the petrodollar would only hurt the dollar and possibly add to its collapse

besides the dollar hasn't been gold backed since Nixon, it currently operates purely on debt
