Ego doesn't tell you about them audibly. The notification pops up in two locations, once as you reach a certain Ego rating a little bit of text pops up yellow text for ego rating and white text for what you unlocked at that level. The other method it uses to tell you is the blue box that pops up on the left side of the screen. Usually that box tells you there are new missions available. It is easy to start ignoring the blue box and miss the coop announcement.

Just open up the Matchmaking window every 50 EGO or so, and see if there's something new and interesting there on the Co-Op tab.

I think EGO does alert you to the co-op option (Press N), but only matchmaking is open at first (death matches and Shadow War). as stated previously, co-ops are added as your EGO increases, there are also pursuits (f2) keyed to co-op accomplishments.

The two co-ops available in the last Beta are actually higher level ones I hadn't tried before (highest personal EGO in alpha before an operation "fresh start" of 564). Did "Isle of Lost soilders" at around 122 with a 162, a 58, and something equally low and had no problem although it took an excrutiatingly long time to kill the energy boss. Did "Cronkhite" at about 200 with a 262, and two more 50-60's and only had one TPK at the Dark Matter Boss. Repeated it when I was around 250 with 3 others about the same and it was a total playthrough.

I'd say 120 was a good place to start, but obviously you could have started earlier. I usually don't concern myself with them until I've done all Mount Tam except for the arcade type side missions, but that's me. I'm pretty sure "liberate the lost" should be first up,

Also, they had contracts switched off for Beta, but you can get Paradise rep for doing them which will be more important to you when you hit 250 EGO

As you play through the game and your ego raises,
There are visible notifications on the left hand side of your screen that tells you when specific instances are unlocked.
The first one being explosive 101 at around ego 30

all you need to do is open your match making and then queue for cooperative missions and then the name of the instances
