What the heck am I talking about?
Only one person actually plays the co-op map and does all the fighting. The other 3 hang back and do their best to not draw the enemies attention.
Why the heck would people do something crazy like this?
Because taking on an entire enemy force single-handed can be a fun and interesting new challenge. Also if you're playing a co-op map for the first time you'd be able to take the time to explore and not feel rushed to keep up with the other 3 people who have already played the map countless times. Or maybe you just want to get a co-op map out of the way for a contract and this would be a different way to do it.
And the other 3 people do what?
Well, besides not interfering or spoiling the map for the player, they can stand back and laugh at him as he gets crushed (but keep it light).. kinda like watching UTload in the Friday stream. They could also explore parts of the map the player already went to for curiosity or for those pesky data recorders. Or watch tv. Or get to work on clearing that backlog of items in their Defiance store claims page. Pretty much anything that can be done while still keeping half an eye or ear on the co-op misison.
Of course, the player might need some med-evac help from the others if he gets incapacitated or he's just so overwhelmed by the enemy he has to ask for the others to help him.
I've only done a couple co-op maps so far but I don't see why this wouldn't work. If you're interested let me know and if there's enough interest we can give it a try as long as there's enough people willing to sit back on a mission or at least alternate.
