PS: Side question, can you use any gun for your secondary or does it need to be a pistol?

yes, you could use any gun for your secondary.

I use grenade launcher, and Light machine gun.

Heck, you could use two LMGs if you wanted, but you'd be out of luck when your ammo ran dry.

you can use any two guns you want (used single no dual wield) and have others in backpack for a change out.
as for the infector you get one for preordering from gamestop (the Sporeshot)

Ummm...to shoot enemies? You get two weapons to start: a pistol and a "class"-specific weapon. You don't need to use/equip either of them.

The pistol is just another weapon, couple of examples: depending on the pistol it can do a ton of damage per shot slow firing, or a 3 shot burst fast. All pistols I have seen are highly accurate. It fills 1 of 2 weapon slots you have.

I know, but after the starting area, do you ever use pistols again? If you can use rocket launchers, SMG's, rifles, ect... Why ever use a pistol? Do they have something special?

Some pistols are strong.

I used an LMG or AR with a pistol as my secondary. My pistol was a revolver that did 1500+ DMG. This is not 100% exact but I had a crit hit of around 9750 while using overcharge. The only thing was it had a slow rate of fire.
