I know, but after the starting area, do you ever use pistols again? If you can use rocket launchers, SMG's, rifles, ect... Why ever use a pistol? Do they have something special?

Well there is the ammo pools, pistols have their own and with a relatively low magazine capacity still do a large amount of damage per shot, are highly accurate, if more short to medium ranged weapons. Equipping an LMG and an AR is not a good call as they share the same ammo pool, so if you run out of ammo with one, your outta ammo with the other. Pistols just happen to be the one option for another weapon.

Besides with certain perks and pistol types a Cloak player could be quite effective at coming up from behind and very close for a critical shot for an assassin type play style. That's the beauty of the game, experiment and see what works for you.

I don't think there is a need for a infectionator. You can call your self anything you want but don't think anyone will call you that thou

i use them sometimes. i can get 3k crits in the face with some pistols

in beta i used a northstar flaregun and did 5907 with headshots.

In the beta I had a pistol with a great scope that caused additional burn damage. I used it all the time.
