Why I don't expect to see you folks in the game on April 2

I'd like to be there, I really would. I love being in the first wave as we tear thru the content but I have been unable to get my pre-order key from GameStop Denmark. I went into the store today and placed a pre-order. I look at the receipt and there's no pre-order code printed on the receipt.

I ask the clerk, where is my pre-order code? He says, It's in the box with your game.
Me, 'you don't have the codes on flyers or cards?' Clerk, 'There might be flyers but we haven't received any yet.'
Me, 'is there a different product I can order today that comes with a pre-order code? Like Defiance - Preorder instead of Defiance - PC? Clerk, Nope, sorry.
Me, 'Is there anyway I can get my Defiance pre-order code today? Clerk, 'Sorry, Sir'.
Me, OK. Thanks for your time. Clerk, We'll call you when we get the game in.

Note the games haven't arrived yet nor have any of the pre-order codes.

This store KNOWS how to handle pre-orders, I have personally pre-ordered several MMOs from them, including: Age of Conan, Warhammer, RIFT, SWTOR, The Secret World, GW2, and now Defiance. They have had different systems to deliver codes with these various games, sometimes on little cards, sometimes on flyer inside an empty game case, sometimes just a printout from Store HQ.

This is the first time I've been unable to get a code before the launch date. I'm pretty sure it's because GameStop doesn't have em. It's almost as if you can NOT get the codes from a retail store until you get the physical box. (Yes, know that some US retailers print em on the receipt but that's NOT the system used in Denmark. I did try another store, same deal.

My only option to start at launch seems to be a digital download. I prefer the physical copy, so I'll just start later when the boxes arrive.

just so you know when it comes to mmo's there's absolutely no advantage to getting a physical copy.

quite often the data on disc is completely obsolete within weeks to a few months of launch, and generally still requires a big download going into launch.

there's also generally no fluff in non $150 type CE boxes anymore. no maps, no manual, no bonus discs or anything that's worth collecting. the fluff only comes in those over priced boxes.

My friend i would advise you to contact Trion customer support as well as Gamestop support and have some sort of proof of purchase ready. I've had issues like this even with my regular Gamestop, i mean i had the same issue as you're having now except with GW2, I spoke to the clerk and they said there was nothing to be done so i was at a loss. I came back the next day to a different clerk and he promptly gave me my code. So best of luck!

Online Customers: Code will be emailed within 2 business days after your order ships.

Store / In-Store Pickup Customers: Code will be printed on your receipt at time of pickup.

I have a scanner, so I COULD scan in my receipt as 'proof of purchase' and fax it to Trion CS and HOPE they could somehow flag my account so I didn't need a pre-order code. I'm not going to do that, however. Trion CS is a finite resource and is probably stretched thin these days trying to help customers out with real problems. I'm not going to take up their time when I will most likely have what I need in a few days anyway. I'm also not going to call GS HQ and try to get them to find a code for me.

Then, why did you make this thread Mac? Well, I wanted to inform people that they shouldn't try to contact me in game at launch. I also wanted to pass on to Trion that there might be room for improvement in the distribution channel. And I wanted to let the community here know about what might impact them too.

availability inb4; not everyone has acceptable forms of online payment to purchase digitally.

EDIT: Mac's a real nice considerate guy. +1 respect.
