I ask the clerk, where is my pre-order code? He says, It's in the box with your game.
Me, 'you don't have the codes on flyers or cards?' Clerk, 'There might be flyers but we haven't received any yet.'
Me, 'is there a different product I can order today that comes with a pre-order code? Like Defiance - Preorder instead of Defiance - PC? Clerk, Nope, sorry.
Me, 'Is there anyway I can get my Defiance pre-order code today? Clerk, 'Sorry, Sir'.
Me, OK. Thanks for your time. Clerk, We'll call you when we get the game in.

Note the games haven't arrived yet nor have any of the pre-order codes.

This store KNOWS how to handle pre-orders, I have personally pre-ordered several MMOs from them, including: Age of Conan, Warhammer, RIFT, SWTOR, The Secret World, GW2, and now Defiance. They have had different systems to deliver codes with these various games, sometimes on little cards, sometimes on flyer inside an empty game case, sometimes just a printout from Store HQ.

This is the first time I've been unable to get a code before the launch date. I'm pretty sure it's because GameStop doesn't have em. It's almost as if you can NOT get the codes from a retail store until you get the physical box. (Yes, know that some US retailers print em on the receipt but that's the system in Denmark. I did try another store, same deal.

My only option to start at launch seems to be a digital download. I prefer the physical copy, so I'll just start later when the boxes arrive.
Sad to hear , but I applaud your diligence! At least you are handling it like a man. See you on the beach! that is, when you get there.

From my memory both Cataclysm and Pandaria were both already updated to before the game physically launched. You didn't even have to have purchases WoW at that point. You could create a battle.net account and download the game/updates in full but were unable to log in as you didn't have a key listed to your account. It would be cool if we were able to do that for the PC version of Defiance.

I prefer to get a physical copy because I hate copying numbers down because when my computer blows up I will have forgotten my passwords and now will have no way to retrieve the codes to redownload the game.

LoL. But actually only ordered from Amazon for the Plague Bringer...stuck with the physical copy.

same issue with games from Swedish retailers! I asked CDON when i ordered a copy of their game when my code would arrive they said with the Game once its mailed.

I was a little baffled but in one way fine with it. So why were i baffled? Well most MMOs pre-orders usualy gets sent out by the retailers in e-mail giving a code, but i think becouse Defiance dosent have a headstart they arent sending the codes out that way but you got to wait for the order to arrive.

But for some the game will be arriving late, becouse the retailers will send them to late to get to 2nd April. Specialy becouse of the Easter (well atleast in sweden as fri-monday are RED days here and no one is working

To OP, one question. When you ordered Defiance at the store, did you pay in full or just put a down payment on it?

Why is that I ordered Defiance with payment in full from a GameStop store today (30 March) and had pre-order code printed out on sells receipt.

What I do hate is if I ordered the game from Wall-mart today, they will not ship it till 8 March.

While E&B games has been generally pretty good to me over the years, they cannot compete with digital sales and this shows since all the shops in my town has essentially stopped ordering PC games. Went in there to cancel pre-order and looked at the PC section and it was 2 shelfs worth lol! 9/10s store is console junk.

Anyways, I had ordered UE....paid in full infact but when I asked for key to get into beta like promised; I was given a blank look and then told it did not exist even though the flyer right there said so. "Must be a typo". Yea, ok. Well I figured out how to use pre-paids online and now I won't be going back to any retail store for my games ever again.

GameStop in the US DOES print the pre-order codes on the receipt. GameStop in Denmark does not. They are different companies with different policies and procedures.

I think that current trends will disagree. Look at the PS4. They stated that all games will be delivered electronically only. If you are a game company, why would you pay to burn a CD and print a CD case when you can sell the game for the same price for literally nothing.

I'd be shocked if the next XBOX supported physical game CD's.
