    How great is the connectivity?

    Hi!

I've noticed this game on the Steam front page a lot and I've been watching the videos about the game and the show and they both look very promising. However I'm very worried about the connectivity about players from around the world. From the looks of it, from my opinion, this game seems to be leaning more to the European and American public.

I'm writing this from Japan and wondering how good the connectivity will be. Will there be any lag issues and so on. I have 6 days before I make up my mind because I'd like to pre-purchase the Deluxe Edition. Any input or ideas about this would be very helpful and as soon as possible.

    Thank you.

I have only watched videos Naru and got sold on it. The show looks pretty cool too. I didn't see much world chat going on from videos and I can't see lag being an issue in todays age for a new IP; there won't be 5 million people logging in at once like WoW. Trion also has experience with Rift to which it was a SUPER SMOOTH game upon release (for me anyways, best mmorpg release). I think this game *should* be fine.

Funny thing is, an hour before I bought Defiance and watched videos, I had a status update saying "Defiance looks cool!...just not $100 cool.". Yeah...that comment was removed shortly after

That is not always true :P I have a fast and stable internet, but some MMOs just won't work for me. In GW2 i was kicked every 15 min.

But i understand what you mean
Aragorn: It is an army bred for a single purpose: to destroy the world of men. They will be here by nightfall.

    Theoden: Let them come.

Do you use a router? IN some games, I have to go into router settings and enter in the ports for the game and for some games I don't.

I did get help from their support with such things, but i go no fix. They were very helpful, no issues there.
I don't play it anymore anyway

from japan or south korea it will probably be shakey. i know people who play mmorpg's in sk and there's quite a noticeable delay and lag, enough that it impacts pve, not just pvp.

then again japan might have a more direct corridor to NA than SK, and likely does than australia/nz which i've played games with people from that did just fine in pvp, though i think they were maybe just accustomed to the delay, kinda like when i was a kid playing hldm and tfc on 56k.

Thank you all for your quick responses, it's very helpful. I guess I won't be joining the fight for this game since I'm having some connectivity issues already in some games that aren't really played in Japan a lot.

    Thanks!

you'll have a better connection than I did, From Hong Kong I was experiencing none of the traditional things I would associate with an online shooter and high ping.

The only thing I would see, was the occasional and I mean occasional (scoped-in) head shot completely miss. For the most part when I was playing the game felt very similar to me playing Unreal 2003 with <150ms ping

I can't speak for THION's servers, but I do remember a time when I was working in Japan and playing Star Wars Galaxies, I actually had a better connection to the servers from (Kanto region) Japan than many people in the states. And with the jump to lightspeed space combat I was able to compete without hinderance against people in the States
