i can take a pic next time i'm there.
it stands out to me because i am annoyed that it's taking up space on the shelf when they could have something i might actually want to pick up there instead. XD.
idunno if they have any rift boxes or time cards on the bottom shelf anymore. they had rift boxes for a long time though. i think i bought the rest of their time cards when i was still played to give to guildies as prizes for participation.
I made a rookie mistake, I forgot to include the bonuses that come from GMG

PC Beta Access
3 Day XP Boost
Outlander Outfit
In game title: Iron Demon
Exclusive weapon: Legionaire
Mainly the XP Boost is worth about 120 BITS, the outfit is the same as the steam bonus as is the in game title. Lastly, the exclusive weapon kind of negates the exclusive weapon from steam, so it does take down the value of the steam bonuses, but steam still ends up on top with better value.
i find steam to not be worth it... not even close...
rift? never planned on playing the game... so value 0
costumes? didn't like those of them i saw so far, and you get alot in game, so value 0
Weapons? most weapons you will see better in the first 5 mins anyways... so value 0
Vehicles? They are just other colours of the same vehicles basically, that you can get in game... so value 0
Xp and scrip boost? They will only allow you to level faster... and i can easily do without them... so value 0
titles? don't think many people will use most of the titles anyways, as you will get cooler ones... so value 0
Extra Inventory? This is the only thing i can see any value in. As i tend to loot alot, and to earn more scrip, you need more inventory.
so i'd much rather save a huge ton of cash buying the game, and then spending all i saved on 15 slot inventory spaces in the store... should allow me to start out with 30-60 slots and still come in lower than people who bought on steam...
So $45 from gmg. Are you buying the Season Pass? If you are, you can only get it on sale with Steam version for $30. Otherwise $40 (sale, reg price is $50). So now you're a $5 savings. $5 you get the extra inventory slots and all those non value things you don't want :P However, at least it's there in your Steam libary too.
I think there's a few flaws in your calculations and logic. First of all, you're including the Dodge Challenger in your costs and savings, which every pre-order gets for free. So, don't even bother tallying that.
With Steam you get these bonuses:
+10 Inventory slots: 300 bits
Lock Box: 240 bits
RM Nomad M4 truck: 600 bits
A-Tex Growler quad: 240 bits
Rift Storm Legion: Has been on sale for as low as $12.00 recently
Title - Steam Powered: (priceless! or not)
So, 1380 bits and $12 of stuff, or about a $30 value from Steam's bonuses (season pass discount will be calculated later in the total, since you have to actually buy it for it to mean anything). Assuming you're after the deluxe edition you've payed $130 on Steam for the game and the season pass (this is where we've counted the $10 savings on the season pass)
If you go with a site like GMG, you get the same deluxe edition for $80, and you can buy the season pass for $40. That's a total price of $120, $10 less than you pay on Steam. You can take that $10 savings and spend it on whatever you want. Unfortunately, you're obviously not going to be able to buy the whole ~$30 of Steam swag.
Which brings us to the very important question: Would you even want to?
A-tex Growler: Would you bother buying it? You already receive one for free as a reward for completing the 2nd(?) mission after leaving the tutorial. Why would you want two of those quads when they're nearly the same color (dark green camo versus, uh.. a different shade of dark green camo).Again, value comes down to what you're after. If you were totally planning on buying every single item that Steam was offering as tier-bonus, then Steam's deal is awesome. But it gets less and less awesome as the list is filled with items you weren't planning on spending money on in the first place, especially when there are cash-in-hand discount deals out there to spend on things you do actually want.
RM Nomad:Would you bother buying this? That's going to come down to personal preference. I had one of these during the beta and actually liked the feel of the quad better. The only advantage of the truck (to me) was that it was a two-seater. But we already get a two-seater (and a faster one at that) just for pre-ordering: the Dodge Challenger. I, personally, would never bother with the truck after receiving the challenger - just a personal preference thing, some people will prefer the slower truck because they love trucks.
Lock box: Do you plan on buying these? I don't, although I recognize that others will. Another personal choice.
Rift Storm Legion: Did you plan on playing this? I don't. Between Defiance and the other MMO I'm currently playing, I don't have time or a desire for another (particularly a subscription based game). No offense to Rift.
Inventory space: These are probably going to be the more popular item players will like to have. If I purchased through GMG I have $10 to spare and can buy about 25 inventory expansions, which sounds a whole lot better to me than Steam's offer of 10.
Me, I shopped around more and ended up spending $107 on the deluxe digital edition and the season pass for myself, a $23 savings from Steam's deal. And I'll take that $23 and use it in Defiance's cash shop to buy more Defiance digital items than any Steam sale is granting, and they will be items I actually want to own (rather than items Steam prefers to give to me).
Steam has a decent deal and is simpler to grab. That's really about it. I know a lot of gamers like to stand behind their purchase decisions and disapprove of everyone who took another route, but too many keep pushing the idea that Steam is absolutely the best deal - the reality is there's a lot of "if" clauses attached to that statement. And if you're someone who is really looking for the best deal (maybe money is tight, or you just want the most bang for your buck because you feel it's all overpriced to begin with, or whatever), nobody is doing them any favors by insisting the best deal is with Steam.
That said, people looking for the best deal need to be willing to put in some effort in figuring it out and finding it, and not just trusting what the masses claim.
I went with GMG - partly because of the lower actual price, but also because I had credit with them from previous deals and trade ins. But when you start comparing some of the bonuses it is hard to compare like with like.
Yes Steam offer the season pass for a current discounted price, but we all know GMG have %off vouchers all the time. I bought the Borderlands 2 Season Pass from them at Christmas for £7 - less than the cost of 1 DLC at full price, so the chances of GMG running a good discount on the season pass at some point in the future is highly likely, while there is no real benefit to buying it immediately and then waiting for the content.
Starting weapons are a dubious bonus - in order for the game to have some balance they can't give massively powerful weapons to start with, and experience with other games with random loot drops have shown within 10 / 15 levels you will probably have replaced all starting bonuses with kit you have found. All those bonuses are then worth is what you can cash them in for - likely untradeable with minimal sale value, but of course useful in those early levels.
Inventory space is likely to be a popular item, though we have yet to find out what the real limits will be - there are some bonuses through the arkfall codes, and some more space can be bought with bits.
its 30$ for dlc pass on steam atm, so 10$ less then current trion price and 20$ cheaper then they said it would be after launch.
