A Trion Worlds representative was able to confirm the news for Gamasutra. The news comes on the heels of reports from several months ago that company-wide layoffs had all but eradicated the team dedicated to Defiance. Here is the full statement:

"We can confirm that the San Diego studio will be closing. The day to day operations of Defiance will be moved to our Redwood City studio where it can be managed alongside Rift and our other in development titles including ArcheAge and End of Nations. As part of this transition, we are working hard to ensure that a number of great people will be making the move from San Diego to the Bay Area and continue their work at Trion."

yes this is very sad news

This seems more like a follow through to what had already happened in May, and less like a new event to cause more concern. There was just enough time between then and now for any 90 day notice to have run its course.
    Defiance branded cereal.
Bullet shaped crispy wafers of corn by product with sweet marshmellow Hellbug skitterlings, and chewy chocolate shield pickups.
For a limited time only, random boxes come with a variant of the popular with kids "Dead Raider Blaster" figurine. Variants include bullet holed mohawk, and brown stained pants.

Something big like this needed to happen the team they had together wasn't working although I'm sure they are all talented at what they do. I hope they all find new jobs but this can only be good for the game I think.

Tired of this piss-poor management. On the phone with Sony about getting a refund. If it isn't one thing it is another with this game. It would be one thing if it was not announced and promoted, like RAGE or Dishonored's DLC. But advertising it and stringing it along definitely put a sour taste in my mouth about the season pass in general.

I think a change needed to happen too. I also think having those office merge is a good idea if..
They have a staff dedicated to Defiance And not spread over multiple games.
It isn't so much the relocating, more so that their were some layoffs as well.
I just want to point out that everytime search for defiance/trion news it seems that the information
only pertains to RIFT. Since it has gone F2P, one could expect that kind of hype it has drawn.
Unfortunately I do not play RIFT, however I do play Defiance and that division of Trion seems to be
the only ones suffering from massive layoffs and now relocation.
I am sure the move will prolong the release of DLC.. although I hope not.
COME ON, SCOTTY BOY!!! We're counting on ya buddy!

Yup. I still have "CASH" set aside for it.
I just can't commit till I hear a guaranteed date of release or acrually see the product.
I am not in a rush for the dlc as long as the game is fixed and sustained.
Dlc won't do any of us any good if the servers go down.

I think it's great that they're moving it. This dev team has had so many problems, maybe some new guys know how to work on MMOs (Rift) can finally get stuff done.

I think work can now finally start being done. They had 90 days when the last round of layoffs happened. I would imagine that everyone has been either a. looking for another job or b. looking for somewhere to live at the central office. No one has had time, or the 'want' to work on this project. Now that their offices will all be together it should be full steam ahead.

    At least..I hope.
