Please don't, you'll make me feel older than I really am(I'm only 24)! Quake/Unreal was/is awesome. Don't forget Tribes either! I've seen some people in BF3 jump into prone to avoid fire, and while it blows up in their face most of the time, I still think it's a pretty valid strategy(at least the going prone part, smaller model to hit, just like IRL).
Exactly, I'm... Well, I'm not old enough to feel old yet. That's why it's rather unnerving! :P
I'd never really think about b-hopping in BF3 if I ever played it though. I just can't see it working in a game that isn't designed around the idea of ridiculously fast strafing and jumping. Counter Strike, for example, I would never jump in. It's just impractical and your bullet spread goes EVERYWHERE.

nothing will ever be able to recapture that feeling of 'OMG' like wolfenstein 3d lan parties did. or when we drove up to walnut creek, ca to play battletech at Virtual World. this video was less cheesy back then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHSmuBxqlG4
(that cockpit the actors are sitting in is the exact cockpit you the player sat in)

those arent special effects. the combat you see on the screens was the actual game we played. it was team death match battletech. every button in those cockpits had a function. the cockpits were sound proofed but you could communicate with other pods via a button.
8 bucks a round. while you waited there was a sports bar to hangout out in and share stories.
social gaming was at it's most social in 1996 imo

bhopping in BF3 blows up in peoples faces rather hilariously(in my experience) because the head portion of the model ends up somewhere around the chest when doing it and then the person shooting them gets a free headshot. Spamming the prone/stand command however is pretty valid, since it causes people to have to adjust while you can put 2-3 more bullets in them while they do that. It could give you the edge in a close fight.
Bunny hoping is a maneuver that allows you to break your opponents aim but a good player can judge where the enemy is landing and re-adjust. Bunny hopping is not a bad thing it's the bad players who can't cope with it that make it seem noobish.
