It's funny I first heard of defiance from a post on Bungie.net in the Destiny forum. I do agree that Defiance could have used some more press, a lot of my fellow gamer haven't heard about Defiance so I am trying to spread the word. I don't think there is anything wrong with the borderlands comparison as that is an excellent game. But I feel we're the been here before feel can hurt a game. I felt that's what happen when rage came out after playing fallout and borderlands that rage was late to the party..

Complaining about graphics in an MMO that has decent graphics to begin with. Come on OXM, you can do better than that...Bungie fanboys. How can you compare to a game that has zero game play out...that makes no sense. Vaguely comparing stories like this can lead me to saying it's like a laundry list of other media.

I know exactly what you mean. From my understanding nobody in the press got thier hands on the game , but were only shown some gameplay. On top of that bungie already said it not an MMo' from the gameplay aspect but from a social. You're not going to go into the game a see thousands of others players running around and that encounters whould be random if they were in the same area as you.

just one more thing to note. destiny isn't even slated to come out this year. even if it does we're still looking at holiday season before anyone plays it...which means i have plenty of time to play both.

Either way, I've played Defiance longer than they probably did and it's definitely didn't deserve a "meh."
You're definitely drinking the Trion Kool-Aid...

The game is pretty "meh", judging from the horrendous, out-dated xbox beta we had to endure. Plus, it is like Destiny, in a sense (from what we know about destiny). However destiny is going to look, and play twice as good (think it's next-gen?). The play-style does seem kind of borderlands ish, so I can also see that comparison.

And I mean come on. The press, or lack thereof for this game, has been near to non-existent.

people still read that rag? the enquirer has better writers. Gave up on that way way back. years ago even.

And anyone comparing this to Destiny is an idiot. For one thing, destiny is next gen. For another, we've only seen a few vids. The fact that this rag uses that as a comparison tells you how bad they are

i agree, it seems the want to flatten the competition maybe? but destiny is so far off from the defiance launch i dont get the put down (so to speak). Unless they played the final version version recently and saw something we cant yet.
But im stoked for april 2nd.

But I know with 100% certainty which game I'll be playing first.
Defiance, because frankly, there aren't any other good games out there now (in terms of MMO's, shooter's, etc.).

Destiny, because its being developed by Bungie, a company with a proven track record, who makes amazing games.

Sure Trion makes games, but let's be real. They are nowhere near the caliber of Bungie games.

I am going to say something most of you probably don't want to hear, but this game is average. As a shooter it doesn't compare favorably with the likes of Halo, Borderlands, Bioshock, Farcry, Call of Duty, or Gears. They are all technically superior shooters. There just isn't any disputing this point. The gun play in those games is just light years ahead of this game.

On the other side of the spectrum it actually fares worse in the role playing department. Setting aside the fact that it isn't anywhere close to being as compelling as a Elder Scrolls title. Most of the shooters I listed above do actually have more compelling leveling system to their credit. The role playing aspect really is painfully shallow. It just doesn't hold up well at all.

Those are what would drag the score way down. What buoys it up to average is the volume of content, and the persistent world. The game may not be the best thing since sliced bread, and it definitely doesn't merit a terribly high score, but it is playable, and should keep players mildly engaged for a longer time then most games. I don't know exactly what the developers were thinking prioritizing the shooter aspect to such a extent.

The market is basically glutted not just on shooters, but on a lot of solid good shooters. What the market just doesn't have enough of is sandbox role playing games. On the consoles we get one maybe two in a entire year. If the design were more balanced between both shooting and role playing. Then there would at least be some kind of real synergy going on.

Anyway I don't expect the moon out of this game. I am expecting a game that can keep me modestly amused for a few weeks, and if I get that out of this title I will be happy. Anyone expecting months of enjoyment out of this title. Just wasn't asking themselves the right questions during the Beta. Namely how long before this or that becomes tedious.

I hate to suggest it, but if the Beta is indicative of the final product. Then this game is going to need a radical redesign about a month in. Otherwise the servers are going to empty out quite quickly. Like I said it isn't any kind of great shooter, and the character building just isn't rewarding enough to keep people coming back. In what way isn't this game a head shrug.

    Exactly.

The majority of the gaming population will buy this game off of a whim, simply because they want to try something new, or because they're tired of the other games currently out. Only the hard-core people, a la forum-posters, who have been following this game for months, are going to continually play this game. Once a new, exciting game comes out, people are going to instantaneously jump ship.
