At no point have I seen a majority of our customers give a care about why we messed up, or who messed up. They care about one thing: that we get the project/product back on track and fix the screw up, and do so in a timely manner. Period.
I, for one, could not possibly care less about the who, what, why, when, and where of why the original Dev team and management staff drove this game into a hole so badly. I care that the current team fixes the mess. I care that they get Defiance and the DLCs back on track, and that they get the Season 1 to Season 2 bridge content into the game before June 2014 as Syfy publicly said is coming (including directly from the television show runner, and from the San Diego Comic Con panel).
That they laid off staff, shuttered San Diego and moved operations to Redwood, is not my concern. That is their problem, and now Hartman's problem. My concern is that they have my money, so they fix this product, get on track with the 5 DLCs, and provide everything that has been advertised (never mind pre-ordered). That is their only responsibility (including under law) to me as a consumer who has paid for the product, and what I expect them to get it in gear and follow through with. The community management/liason lip service, excuses, apologies, and other speak does not fix the issue.
Trion showed what they can do with Rift. Whether the CMs want to hear it or not, the Defiance team to date--- be it the development team, management team, or both--- has shown since April (at least, as I wasn't in Beta), that they were nowhere near the caliber of the Redwood studio. It's a shame, because Trion set the bar for themselves, and then kicked the bar off the pole and buried it in the sand.
My concern is that they fix this mess, get the DLCs out, and provide the Season to Season bridge content before the next season. I don't care what they have to say. There's been 4 months of talk. Some of us are done with that business strategy.
Then your information would be better than mine, and I have industry friends. First round filming on Season 2 starts tomorrow (August 12th) in Canada. And if you have heard of an official Syfy stance to not renew past Season 2 already, you'd have really damned good information that even I can't find from a reputable source.
