Oh Billy!
Eat Your M.R.E.s and worry not.
They have it fully under control! I talked to Brandileigh in another thread and she is halfway pleased with the DLC.
I am banking on a release date on Saturday.
I got a jar of Mak yesterday!

The whole problem with all of this has been unrealistic expectations on the part of fans vs just what communication they are owed, what is even necessary AND fans that can't understand that mistakes in what is said happen. There's no reason to always be looking for someone to shoot over it. Seriously the things people are demanding here would make them just give up in their own lives if held to the same standards.
We as the purchasers of products do deserve some things, but not everything we want nor even everything that is possible. We have a responsibility too and that's not to always assume the worst, hype everything negatively, and put it in the most cynical light just so we have something to say (wah poor pitiful me). We have a responsibility to be honest ourselves. I see plenty that says fans hold everyone but themselves to standards no one could ever meet.
Trion sold us a game. If it does not work, then deal with that-contact support. You'd be surprised how many people post to complain before even trying to get help. Trion is releasing DLC but they've been accused of lying, cheating, and eating puppies, all in an effort to not release it apparently.
Some people at Trion (or one person) thought the raptor would have a turret but that has been refuted and the DLC will not release with a turret on a raptor. A mistake at worst but one that in no way rises to the level of lying, cheating, and eating puppies. But apparently some people never make mistakes or say anything that is later disproven.
See the thing is here when Trion does try to communicate, some are all too ready to assume the worst so they hear what they want to hear and fill in the blanks to make up the rest. Or, they pick and choose which little snippets they can quote to prove Trion lied. Honesty and perfection are a two way street-expect it from others then expect they will also demand it of you.
Trion is a business and they make business decisions. If they fire people, hire people, reorganize, take a vacation, promote some to vacant positions, or make any decision within their company they don't owe us explanations. They are responsible for delivering a product to us. And they are responsible for fixing things that don't work-I'd rather have them work on developing stuff and making everything work better than spending time explaining why certain business decisions were made. Those things are not my business. Standard fare is for businesses to try and make sure that any new team will do things better and so they optimistically work on just that thing.
No game dev can satisfy everyone. I hate PvP. You may like it. If Trion makes more content for PvP well that may not make me super happy but they are appealing to you. If they buff a gun I don't like, nerf one that you like, or scrap it all and give us teddy bears to fight with, that's based on their best guess as to what most will like.
I know of no game dev other than those that merely release map packs (for high prices and cheap content) that release the DLC exactly when fans want it or with everything everyone desires in it. I think people have to stop acting like spoiled children and consider this is a game we're talking about-a freaking game. I for one am having fun playing it-yes, still, and all the other players running around in the game prove to me that a heck of a lot of other people are doing the same.
For $60, I am owed certain things-over 1000 hours of gameplay so far tells me I got a lot so far, more than I was owed. But for $60 I am not owed the right to call Trion and the devs every name in the book, to imagine they're out to ruin my life, demand they tell me why the company changed managers, closed a studio, or anything else. I am not allowed to tell them when their DLC should be ready. I am an adult and can decide to wait and buy it when they release it or take the chance on a season pass beforehand. That's up to me. This forum is somewhat sad.
Understand that I'm not saying everything has been handled right but in the scheme of things nothing that has happened here or in this game rises to the level of disregard for common decency that I've seen frequently displayed here. People have A right. To complain about something that was not delivered for money that was paid. Beyond that, most of what people choose to complain about is done with a disregard for any responsibility or even basic respect for other people who are trying to do a job and want us to be happy. So sad.
QFT. The demands made by certain members of this forum community are quite ridiculous. For instance, access to the developer's workflow? Would you also like to sit in on the meetings they make the decisions in? The amount of overhead it would take accommodate this demand would certainly be counterproductive for any dev team.

I know early on devs were quoted as saying that the "5 dlc packs are going to be released in the first year of the game" Do you believe this is possible?
No.
Why? They have One DLC that is ready to go, the people who made it, for the most part, no longer work at trion. This means new staff, adjusting to new code and the seemingly 2-3 weeks it takes for anything to be approved my Microsoft before it is made available. Lets say with a dedicated team 2-3 months to Create a DLC, that's Plot, story board, write, render any new 3D models, test models, create environments, play test, add audio/ADR, code the Triggers for the missions and behaviors in the game environments, how are other mobs going to interact if there is a new creature for example. Once this is done, box it up, ship it to MS and PSN and then they play with it, test it for stability and send back their to be fixed list and so on.
That is a Shtako ton of work for each DLC. 2-3 months is a sprinters pace. 4 months at best start to finish and release a DLC. 4 x 4 = 16, already 5 months in. That's at best 21 months for all 5 DLC's. I would say 24 is more realistic from date of launch and financially I do not think Defiance is performing in the black. I think it is deep in the Red and closer to end of line than not at this point which I hate to say, but it is realistic at this point.
Unless there is revamp of many things beyond just the game in some ways I don't see Defiance getting 2 years. More likely Syfy will renew for a 3rd year and we all know the record they have for shows making past a second season.
I wonder if they can pull some Devs from Rift to help out.
