[Request] Developer / Tech Support Response Regarding LIVE Client

I would like to request/ask a Developer or Tech Support could explain to us a little information as to why we needed to download the whole client again for LIVE when there isn't any noticeable changes from the beta build apart from splitting up data into smaller batches.

I have gone into both clients 'WAD' folders to see the difference to require a whole new download instead of just patching the beta client. This is the only difference:

    Directory: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10200236/LIV...eta%20List.jpg
As we can see, they only difference is the data has been made into smaller batches but is all the exact same and this is noted more in this next screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10200236/LIVE%20%2B%20Beta.jpg.

Every batch is practically the same size from beta to live with very minor changes, so this leaves me scratching my head as to why we have had to go though the hassle of downloading the whole live client when it looks almost the exact same as the beta client.

So can a Developer or Tech Support come in here and talk to us a little about why it was necessary to download the live client and why we wasn't able to just patch the beta client please.

Was there technical issues that made this necessary? Does the new client build setup give better performance using smaller batch files than the larger batch files the beta client used?

I am just interested in knowing why it was necessary for us to download the whole client again (with all the troubles have come with it) for live version.

    Thanks
    Sins

It has nothing to do with what you see in size but the codeing its self that differes. Stop thinking they have to explain everything they do in a game in detail to you people.

This was explained if you would have taken time to search that the CODE differs from beta to live. I see though you spent more time thinking they HAD to tell you WHY instead of useing the search.

Because they would have to make a patch that cleans up all the beta utility and back ground programs and add the more polished stuff. It is way cheaper for a company and also way more reliable to just have the new build downloaded completely fresh than patch it up. Even after release it would be more desirable for the devs to just release new builds, but to meet the customers wishes they go through the work of making patches.

The transition from beta to release usually has enough changes to justify the completely new download.

what they said its a completely different code used. just like beta and alpha were different. all you need to know is it is necessary if you want to play the game.

dont even know why its a concern. i mean it doesnt take weeks to download this client. get a decent connection and the game is done in 5 mins

Just to point out that I don't want to be included in your assumption that it needs to be explained to me.

I am no computer expert but if Trion decided that is was needed to download a whole new client, then so be it, download it again I will.

****ty for people with internet problems or slow connection ( of which I am one ), but they are in control of what happens, and they don't need to explain everything.

I agree with dreadburn. also Sins, comparing file sizes is a flawed way to detect changes. Internally a lot of things can change without affecting filesize. I can see that did some cleaning up of the internal file references so thing have changed. If trion want us to redownload the client so be it. it will only give us a less problems down the road.

I'm seriously tired of all the BS that gets spread around when someone asks a simple question. Why the hell shouldn't they explain what they're doing? There's a disgusting amount of blind devotion going on with this game. This might be a "new" thing for the console people here, but simply going from beta to release on games with an update client is actually rather common, and having to spend time doing a redownload of a large client is absolutely going to raise questions as to if its necessary. If there was simply a well presented answer anywhere about this, people wouldn't have to keep asking it. But like most things, Trion has been terrible about communicating what the hell is going on. "CODE!" (which isn't magic by the way) can easily be updated with the client. Most likely, they're doing this as a "just to be sure" measure to make sure things go well at launch and so they don't need to worry about removing unused code which might conflict when the game launches. If that's the case, that's FINE, but jumping on someone who asked a perfectly legitimate question, and going as far as to say he shouldn't need to know to begin with, is just god damn ignorant.

This is pretty common for serious MMOs.. as beta clients are usually have dev tracking bug report software that cant be patched out.
