I will be watching it live on Showcase, and then download it later, I'll make a collection of the episodes, and depending on how much I like it, I will buy the DVD's later when they come out.
Believe me though, I wish I could just avoid the TV altogether, maybe watch it on Showcase's website. Cable companies in Canada are bigger ripoff artists than in the States.

You might actually have a point if the show was geared towards the majority of the world, which it's not. It's geared towards syfy and showcase audiences. If it's going to get cancelled, it 's going to be based on U.S. and Canadian ratings, not the rest of the world.

If you order the Defiance game through amazon they give you a 20$ credit towards buying a season pass for the series, which practically makes it free because the season costs 20.99$

I think you've misunderstood what the season pass is - it's a cheaper way to buy all the DLC for Defiance the game - nothing to do with buying Defiance the show.

I believe its streamed at the exact same time it's being shown in the U.S. I know that's whats being advertised for Syfy in Asia. Bear in mind the time they're showing it in the states is going to be very early in the morning in the UK because of the time difference.

No, you misunderstood what he meant. Amazon preorders were given $20 free instant video credit towards the defiance tv show, practically making the entire season 1 pass free since it's only $20.99 for every episode.

Well as you just stated the station/network receives their revenue from advertisers. Advertisers pay for their ads to be shown on a particular network at a particular time during shows that receive good ratings. If the majority of a televisions show is watched illegally through file sharing or other methods those views are not tracked by Nielsen Ratings. Advertisers don't care how popular a show is among file sharers because these people are not viewing their ads. Therefore the advertisers will pull their ads because they feel the show is not pulling in enough viewers. Without advertising dollars SYFY will be forced to kill the show no matter how good it is or how beloved it is among the fans that do watch it through normal channels. Just ask the fans of Firefly what Fox did to their beloved show after not even the first season was aired to what they felt were lackluster ratings.
