Wait?? So people think the ones pretending to be girls to get gifts are pathetic? Not the ones giving them gifts???![]()

Must run skitterlings over!!!!
I'm not worried, just can't be arsed with the hassle of fighting off horny people especially as I like to RP. Mind you, I don't suspect this game will be anywhere as bad as other mmos I've had the it happen in... must admit though... it was funny seeing them go from charming to spiteful in an instant!

it happens alot less than you seem to think it does.
last time i had some rando stranger assume i was a girl because f my toon was tera a couple months ago, last time before that was in 2006 in l2.
pretty rare to get hit on because of your toon in a game.
more likely to get hit on on forums because you have a girly name and girly avatar, as seen in this thread.
Doesnt really matter if I wanna play a guy or a girl, if the armour looks better on a femail toon then thats that.besides it is a game after all with the freedom to expess urself, cant ser a problem with it
Ummm...no. Most of us are horn dogs who downplay how much we really enjoy watching a hot female avatar's backside. When some of us say "I'd rather look at a female behind all day", we really mean "one of the benefits of playing a female character in a game is that we CAN stare at an attractive female character all day".
Ironically, I tend to wonder about the guys who refuse to play female toons. I mean, what red blooded guy would rather stare at a male backside all day?
Seriously though, I'm sure there is a very small percentage of players of opposite gender avatars who are actually dealing with gender identity issues. For those people, I'm glad a game can give them an outlet to express their internal gender. However, most men who play female toons are completely hetero and really are making the choice for "the view". On the flip side, most women I've known who play cross gender do so to avoid being treated differently because they are female.
There have been studies on gender in MMOs and all of us who have been around long enough are informed by our own experiences as well. People have all sorts of reasons for the gender choice of their toons, but most guys who play female toons do so because they are really, really into girls!
I must admit since I got rid of my PC and stuck to consoles, I've not played MMO's for a while. It used to happen to me quite a lot in SWG, MxO and GW but perhaps people online have wizened up since then. I tend not to RP too much on forums so I don't have the girly name/avatar issue.
That being said, I'm sure I'll create a female alt Character at some point.

mileage may vary. tend to see it/hear about it more often in f2p games these days. i hear it's more common on consoles as well.
certainly on places like reddit people can and do do this stuff. and there's plenty of people out there that are only too happy to hit on other people at the slightest hint of being a girl.
actually we picked up a girl in a game last year in our guild that was laughing at my other guildie trolling by telling people he was a girl. she didn't buy it and then happened to be looking for guild in anotehr chat chan. she was like "this guy isn't for real is he?" and i was like, "hop in mumble and see for yourself". she got a big kick out of it.
we all flirt and tease in my guild, but we're not out to date each other. she also doesn't ask for handouts and doesn't ask for special priveleges. she does ***** if we're doing something she doesn't find fun, but i think that's a fairly reasonable thing to qq about.
also alot of us play female toons for different reasons. as well as like to play dress up.
but yeah generally speaking haven't seen people assuming that we are girls irl.
but like i said i find it obnoxious when someone does turn out to be actually a girl when they come into voice and there's always that guy or those guys that instantly start hitting on her. it's like bro cool your jets. she's not here to find prince charming, she's here to get her game on.
