Catfish is about people who lie on social networking sites.
MMO's are video games not social networking sites.
If someone's dumb enough to give you free stuff because they think you're a girl (or if you are a girl), take it. There's a book by Charles Darwin that will explain how you're helping the progress of the human species by doing so.
I play both male and female toons. I don't see the problem, unless you're telling people you're female when you're male or visa versa.
Probably won't happen in this game though... I mean, we do have voice chat, hah!
Travel Teaches how to see.
There's two issues here.
The first is about people who intentionally deceive for the purpose of gaining an advantage that wouldn't otherwise befall them normally.
It's not news that in fantasy based MMORPGs, that reputation, stature, ph4t lewtz and ego are king. People are deviant schemers and outright liars to make their prior mentioned attributes greater - in part because they are greedy, and in part because they are social rejects or socialites who cannot obtain normal gains the real world...which is more of a psyche issue leading into the next and obvious part of the subject..
While this is an interesting discussion that delves further into the dark side of the human psyche within use of the internet/online gaming, I find it ironic that it's on the forums of a game where the environment is more hostile to these types of people than most others.
MMO's shouldn't be social networking sites, but they have become them or at least an alternate to them.
Social networking sites are a haven for a narcissistic generation, and MMO developers are all too happy to use that to their advantage.
Fortunately, it's been fairly obvious so far that TRION already has a game for these type of people, and they weren't interesting in making another.
That's how people should view it, but they can't. After enough years of these games I can confidently (And of course apologies to the exceptions to the rule..) say that most people who do this are hiding behind their avatar, rather than simply playing it.
If someone has to have that explained to them or it doesn't make sense - then they are most likely one of those people.
There is one scenario though that I am accepting of on the matter of cross gender playing, and that is for the purpose of realism and immersion. If you hadn't noticed in many MMO titles, (particularly with human like species) the size of the characters is either ill proportioned or simply absurd. Often you get games where the men are massive shouldered, huge chested, big head... just way way unrealistic looking. Or the armor/equipment is over the top and grossly large.
Occasionally you get products like the Final Fantasy games, where the human men are more or less average and it is sooooo refreshing.
So with that said, I know people who play the females because despite having model-esque proportions(yes I know sadly not all women are as attractive as they are in TERA) at least things like height, shoulder width, foot/hand size, etc. are all relatively realistic. Can you imagine if they did to the women what they did with the men - made them all look like female hulks and body builders?
LMAO!! i like your style
