I'm one of the 10% who ARE actually female---but, I don't want anyone giving me free stuff.....that's what my boyfriend is for--and he calls them presents!
I usually have voicechat going with people I run with/guildies so its pretty easy to tell who is a he and who is a she...but why does it matter really? If you are here for the flirtation and exploitation---then go for it, I'm honestly here for the gaming... And personally, no matter what the sex is--if someone asks for free things, then they need to go out and: Hunt....shoot...kill....I hear the NPC's drop free stuff.
Anyone who assumes the gender is the same as the players character needs their head examined :P While i have been know to use a Female gender/class i dont often take any "Gifts" and also make it known im a guy so that i get many annoying people.
I can see why someone would want to con people out of items but its your own fault for giving great items away to someone you dont even know just because they are acting like or really are of the opposite gender
sounds like that women do in real life, XD

actually female gamming population way larger per 2 studies
2012 found 42% of gamming population is female
2013 found female population of gamming is 47%
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_and_video_games
According to a study conducted by the Entertainment Software Association in 2012, "Forty-seven percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (30 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (18 percent)."[25][26]
A 2010 study by the Entertainment Software Association had found that the percentage of women playing online had risen to 42%, up several percent since 2004. The same 2010 study showed that 46% of game purchasers were female,[27] and this figure increased to 48% by 2012.[25] In recognition of the importance of the issues of women and girls as game developers and players, the International Game Developers Association, an association of companies and individuals in the games industry, has formed a Special Interest Group on Women in Game Development.[28] This is an active field of discussion and a topic in many conferences in the video gaming industry.[2][3]
According to a survey done in 2004 by the Entertainment Software Association, 25 percent of console players and 39 percent of PC game players were women. Also, 40 percent of online game players were women. According to a report by USA today 60 percent of female gamers played on mobile devices says a survey done by EEDAR. The same survey done by EEDAR also finds 63 percent of these female mobile gamers played online multiplayer mobile games.[29]
Well sure we'd all like to believe those numbers as they make us feel better about ourselves and the gaming community as a whole, but those types of studies are never accurate. The numbers are always skewed in some way or another.
My only problem with these studies is that they are always going to be skewed by the reality that female 'gamers' are not often organic. By that I mean they are either coaxed (not forced, do not misconstrue my word usage), by some exterior force. They are influenced by a lover or a family member - often male. It could also come about because online games are (as previously mentioned) a great social networking environment, and of course social networking is this generation's THING - they go hand in hand. If you are low self esteemed, or simply can't get out much, you can get your social relations online whilst also entertaining yourself.
Where as with boys, none of the above generally happens in order to encourage them to play games - if anything they don't need encouragement, but for now, most females always will.
I'm a guy and I play female characters... have for years now. Also this is my first MMO (I hate subscription fees so I never bothered with any until now) but I am not the type to try and get stuff from other players. I just like seeing the female form and since there is no difference between playing a male or female character in most games - why not look at something pleasing to the eye?
