So with like all my games I install to the HDD first, but with this one I am being asked to install in-game as well. Does this mean that the dashboard install is not required?

have you deleted the beta client yet?
The install from the disc only installs 5.1 gigs of patch data and not game data. The install from dashboard installs 5 gigs game data and no patch data.
......what? Why would the disk have Patch data on it? And an install from the Dashboard is merely telling the Xbox to install from the disk.
They are the same method, the difference is that an install is REQUIRED for the game so the disk prompts you when the game loads up.
I'm curious as to how they get 10.1GB of data on a disc that only holds 7.8
Me too. But if you install from disk then install from dash it still installs. Now if it was the same data it would overwrite ( wouldn't it ) or tell you that the file already exists . The dash does neither . It jousts sits on the hard drive like a normal game and the installed files from the game sits there like add on packs .
Could be some technical wizardy involved using decompression techniques not usually used by Xbox games.
Or something.
