I probably see more Tachmags than Fraggers these days. While I think it's certainly no secret that Fraggers had their own issues, I think the overarching issue is really how strong Syphon is. There's no room for other nano effect choices in PvP because of how incredibly strong Syphon is.
We'll have to see how the proc timer works out on live, but I'm hoping it opens up the possibility for other nano effects. Though something tells me one proc every 1.5 to 2.0 seconds is still going to allow Syphon to shine. I think the only way other nano effects are going to rise to prominence is with Syphon losing some of its power. Personally I think the damage should be removed in favor of just keeping the regeneration property, as I feel that is more in the spirit of what "siphoning life" actually is. It's pretty drastic, but I really think it's what the game needs.
If nearly every single one of the top PvP players use a Syphon weapon, you know there's something wrong with it. :P

Now playing games that actually have PvP.
I know syphon is good but there's a lot of room to apply a change up if people rely too heavily upon it. First of all, assume the other players will mostly use it. Equip a shield with syphon defense. Assume they figure you will also use it and will be defending against it. Equip a weapon with some other nano.
Unlike certain OP weapons that have no real defense or counter as a rule, syphon does have some strategies that can work against it. You just have to follow which way the wind is blowing and be different.
It's not always true that if every top player is using something then there's something wrong with it. If the thing in question does create weaknesses then you can counter it. The problem with some other things are that there's no way to counter them because they have no weaknesses.
Also, use of a BMG in particular can work well to mitigate syphon, AND a regen shield with cloak (for instant shield recharge), and even the regen perk. You might also consider perks that rely on your shield breaking. I've seen this kind of thing done in other games-some games had boosts to damage when HP is low. So look for things like that. Also, I don't know if the one perk works, but there is one to re-direct damage back at an opponent. You can look at its specifics to see what it says because I can't remember it right now.
And create an anti-syphon build for situations when everyone is using syphon.
This is the big problem though with people merely chasing after two weapons in the game-there is no real discussion of all the possible builds.

its been changed there legends are only 15,000 and 750 rep. the purples are 10,000 and 500 rep and the blues i think are like 5,000 and 250 rep.
