There are a couple differences this time around though. There are no servers of the type we are accustomed to so one of their biggest whines, that they had to wait in a queue for 5-30 minutes to log in during the first week of release has been effectively neutralized. In the past, there would be so much crying about log-in queues that developers would feel pressure to open a bunch of extra servers that would end up being ghost towns within 2 months of release. That would lead to inevitable server merges as the initial rush died down. There are only 2 games that I can think of that haven't had to merge servers when they added extra servers after release: WoW and Guild Wars 2. There may be others but those are the only ones that come to mind for me. Anyway, that is a non-issue with Defiance since there is just one massive server.

The next most common whine has to be about class balancing (especially in PvP.) This has also been somewhat neutralized since there are no true classes. However, expect to see an onslaught of whines about various different weapons being overpowered or underpowered. Rest assured that there will be people that will whine vociferously if their weapon of choice is considered the latter and they will whine even louder if one of the former happens to kill them too many times in PvP (once can be considered too many for a habitual whiner.) Hell, we're already seeing threads like that from the last beta weekend.

If this is the first MMO you've played, steel yourself because there is no more self-entitled whiny crybaby than the average MMO player complaining on the game's official forums. My advice is just ignore the forums for the first couple of months if you can. If you must go to them for something, do not engage these individuals in debate about their issues. Doing so is fruitless and only serves to keep bumping their whine threads to the top of the board. Let their threads sink into the endless nether and wait for their inevitable departure. Normally that is shortly after their free month is up but since this game is free to play after you buy it, they may stick around a bit longer than normal. Be strong!

    The "whining" is well received.

People only whine about what they believe to be serious issues, without whining, a lot of the biggest flaws in the game would be left unfixed. There are bound to be overpowered weapons, bugs, connection issues, etc. Without any whining on the forums some of these problems could persist for longer than necessary.

So I say bring on the whine, I've played so many MMO's I'm used to it by now.

    Hell I may even contribute.

Defiance is not a MMORPG it's a 3rd person shooter that all ways takes place online.

What the OP is talking about is a traditional MMORPG like wow/rift/lotro...etc

Defiance is a Shooter first and for most then a MMO and the MMO part is just the fact you are online with other people. You call it "PVP" but it's really just like any other squad base shooter.

What you call "PVE" is just the story unfolding and you playing along.

Honestly most of you are really confused about this game and what it really is.

I usually find the most entertaining thing is when people come to an MMO forum and whine about stuff that's objectively false, like "OMG that last patch was so bad, you're losing hundreds of players!", when that same patch increased the player-base by thousands.

That's just a vague example of course, but stuff like that happens - the sort of people that post here don't necessarily reflect the opinions of the many thousands of people who will play without ever visiting here. I like forums as I find it enhances the experience, as well as letting you know some of the latest goings-on quickly. It's not for everyone, though - some prefer just to play the game and feel absorbed in that universe

If I remember correctly, the Season Pass actually doesn't release until April 5th.... SO I would give it a few days.

For all intents and purposes, it is a MMO. Just like Destiny, which is a "persistent shooter" is, for all intents and purposes, basically a MMO. The reason they are not called MMOs is marketing. MMOs have alot of negative connotations still, especially with people who have never played one before. Not to mention the string of MMOs, in recent years, that failed to meet expectations.
