Just to give a heads up, this game is sharded. Unless there is a big update to the social interface at launch, trying to meet up with people is a crap shoot.

There has not been a global chat or e-mail system in place as of last beta. Your best bet is to input someones name in the search and try to add them as a friend.

You can then use the "Go to" command to transport to the correct shard. I am pretty sure the "friend" system is going to be based on your account name, not char.
