Hey, you know every console has always been in the range of $200-$700 right? That's nothing new. The NES cost $250 at launch - in 1985 that was some good dough; minimum wage was around $4, it's now $10+. You know games for the N64 were $105 a pop? (At least in Canada). The 3D0 was what, $700? Prices jumped considerably (Not really) with the 360($499 CDN) and PS3(*599.99 CDN), but so did the technology involved.
I pretty much disagree with everything you're saying here.
Both of my brothers play games a lot, I mean these guys are on their Xbox 360's all day playing games - but they're not like me, I stay up to date with game news on a daily basis, as I'm sure you do too. They were not aware of the PS4 up until a few days ago. It doesn't mean someone isn't a fan of something just because they don't scour the internet for the latest information - most fans are too busy playing their consoles.
Every new console has a small library of games, you should easily be able to use your common sense to understand why this would be a turn-off for a lot of potential customers. I wouldn't touch a new console if it didn't have any games I was interested in.
Trading in video games is very common in this industry, again - saying someone is not a true gamer because they sell the games they no longer play, is completely beyond me. If I'm done with a game and it's sitting in my shelf gathering dust for a month and I know I'm never going to touch it again - it gets sold. Theres no question about it. Maybe you're just a hoarder?
I sold my PS3 about a month ago for the same reason. I play my Xbox 360 a lot more because most of my friends play it, the only game I bought the PS3 for was Killzone and Demons Souls, but I've played out those games and hadn't touched them in months - so why would I keep this dust gatherer in my house when I can sell it and put the money towards Rent / Food / whatever?

Surprised nobody has mentioned the possibility that Trion may have something up there sleeve to cover this argument (which we have had a few times on this forum already) and if they do it makes sense they wouldn't be aloud to talk freely about it.I am also a "real" gamer and as such i get all the systems so i can play the exclusives. That said i have not yet got the WiiU because there is only one game that really grabs my attention (Lego city, some may say i'm to old but i just love the lego games). That is also one of the reasons i won't be rushing out for the nextbox or PS4 (only the new infamous grabs me so far).
I look forward to E3 this year so we can see some more on the PS4 (hopefully more than it being an extention of facebook, which is all i got from the early show). And i can't wait to see what MS can offer since 360 is my main console this gen' (please don't call it Durango). Also,a lot of us "real" gamers have things that we have to prioritize over our hobbies as such we can't run out and buy everything we want. The ability to trade our games and buy used games or rent games gives us the chance to play games we would have to miss out on if we couldn't do those things.
Happy Hunting!
But they gonna, at least sort of MMO FPS- very similiar in some concept to Defiance btw

From a devs standpoint, why should they care if you are still playing game half year after release and after your purchase. Its not like there is subscription or store full of shining goodies in Defiance to keep you paying. You payed, you played now you can go now.
Or swap to PC - with playerbase of much longer lifespan

After the RRoD issues from the Xbox360 and the weak launch titles and high price issues from the PS3 I have a feeling that quite a few gamers will be slow to make the transition into next gen.
