For the record...Sloth saying his Goonies line...that is a easter egg in the movie. "Hey you guys" is from Electric Company in the 70's..

I like how some people are confused about what an easter egg is and cannot admit when they are wrong. Also quoting a wiki as proof....hilarious! Because wiki's are always 100% accurate and can't be edited by just any one.
Recorder's are not easter eggs, though the names of some might be...like the "Wait for it..." achievement is because it refernces How I Met Your Mother. Or in Mass Effect 2 for instance, Moridin singing the Scientist Salarian song is one. In the Witcher 2, you can find an Assassin from Assassin's Creed who face planted next to a hay cart. Or Conan O'Brien and AndyvRichter cameos in Halo 4.
Point is an easter egg has to have an out of context meaning, in the case of games, it would refernce something outside the game world.
funny how I've never before in my entire life seen the words "easter egg" used to describe gameplay collectibles but have seen his use of the word on almost every game forum I've visited in the last two decades.
collectibles are not easter eggs, an easter egg is a hidden reference or secret that isn't directly relevant to the game, like the photo of one of the developers (or something like that) hidden behind a building in Psyconauts, things that are hidden for the express purpose of you finding them to complete some part of the gameplay is just your average everyday collectible.
To be honest I think over time the term Easter egg has probably changed. When it was first used it may have meant things like Recorders or hidden vendors because your hunting down to find this stuff like an easter egg which is hidden.
But thanks to kinder surprise, the B***ards lol, it now means a little surprise in the game like goonies ref or a name etc.
The Funny part is someone quoting a wiki as fact. For all anyone knows, you put that quote in whatever wiki yourself. Your definition is not common and it is not accepted, hence all the people wondering why people are posting audio log locations on an Easter Egg thread.
Your definition is not for an easter egg, and never has been. It is for a collectible. Pick pretty much any game, search for easter eggs for it. What you will find are different references that developers put in that do not reference that game, but some element of pop culture. It could be the name of a character, like Constable What in Borderlands 2 (Doctor Who reference), the name of the an achievement (Wait for it...), Some type of background area (like the Witcher 2 backgorun referencing Assassin's Creed), a soundbyte (like the Fliers in Borderlands 2 doing the opening of Vagner's Ride of the Valkyries or Tiny Tina saying "You da, you da, you da best.)
What you will not find on easter egg pages are lists of collectibles like audio logs in Bioshock, silver keys in Fable 3, COG tags in the Gears of War, pigeon locations in GTA IV, Flag locations in the Assassin's Creed Series. Do I need to go on, or is the point getting across?
