Now that i remember it's all on one giant shard all the RPers, PvPers, and PvMers are all going to be intermingling. Hopefully these are nice RPers Q_Q lol

Hmm yippyfreaking doo so all russians will probably end up on eu.
Nothing against russians btw have some friends from there.
But they agree with me they lagg like hell to other players in eu server games.
Major reason i never play with them no more cuase its frustrating to play against.
So if they dont get own server (wich 90% off the time they ignore anyway lagg ftw) shadowwars/pvp will be a blast......not.
Already met some in beta derp.
I'm so happy that i found this thread, otherwise i would never know there will be no "servers/realms/shards".
I actually did a search before i found this thread and somehow i missed the others 4357457984 threads about the same subject...
Sorry if this seems arrogant, i know we all impatient to play the game, but filling the forums with 23849237 threads about the same subject it's not fun anymore.
I figured out the no server thing pretty quick. ??? At peak time I go to an Arkfall. There is no way there are only 50 people doing arkfalls at peak time but that's what I see. So:
1. Is the game really that dead a month in?
2. Do people get instanced (likely), with no way to select the instance for people you know?
The game has shards where they load an unspecified amount of people for a specific distance in game. While this can make the game run smoother, it makes the game look like a ghost town. People vanish right in front of you. The only time you'll ever see a large group of people is during an arkfall and even then it seems to cap out at like 30-50 people It's hard to tell the population numbers with this system. I have noticed less and less people doing arkfalls during my play times though.

While there is one "server"/world per platform and region, the game does appear to make use of instancing (copies of the same world map). This was more obvious during launch, particularly if you were playing with friends and had to travel to their instance to join them (despite being in the same location). The tutorial in particular is heavily instanced, only allowing a handful of players per instance before generating a new one. The rest of the world is less restrictive, obviously.
It also uses phasing (personalized copies of a region in the map, usually used for mission progression). This is what's happening when you see someone running towards a point of interest on the map and suddenly vanishing from view, they've likely crossed a (not always visible on your radar) border and entered a different phase than you.
On top of that it has a player render distance of about 75(?) meters. Also, when too many players start to gather around you, the game starts purposely culling out those furthest away for both performance and bandwith cost reasons. If it's extremely crowded this can cause players within spitting distance to pop in and out of view.
So, yes, there are more players out there than you're seeing for a variety of reasons.
Next time, just try answering the question instead of posting a useless image?
