Possibly something they did with the last patch. You can check in the patch notes to see if they changed anything with them. I am still able to scope in with lmgs.
You can. The assault and stabilization ones don't have overlays anymore. Tactical and the other one do. Arsenic_Touch has a thread somewhere in general with them listed

About a month or so back they released an internal mumble/grumble about plans to change how the scopes worked. Things like scopes having varying levels of magnification versus ones that were essentially just Ironsights with better 'stuff', plus the issue that some weaps didn't even have a spot for scopes despite them having a synergy that req'd 4 pieces for the total effect to take place.
Stuff like that. I have the same issue. My SAW is just line of sight now even though you can clearly see the scope still parked on the barrel. I would take a deep breath and unclench the sphinctersIt was talked about greatly and planned for the DLC/patch drop. Hoepfully you got some mods you can kick in to see the differences they've made.
