HOWTO: Enable Hardware FSAA in Defiance

Reposting this from the Alpha Forums before they shutdown.

It can be done with a few simple tweaks, first download NVIDIA Inspector.

    Now,
    • Open Nvidia Control Panel and add ..\DefianceAlpha\alpha\defiance.exe to the list. (It'll show up as Legacy of Kain: Defiance.)
    • Set settings to allow improved image quality of your choice, but leave AA settings alone; saving and closing Nvidia Control Panel after your done.
    • Open NVIDIA Inspector: Click on the Wrench and Screwdriver Icon (Profile Settings) to the left of Driver Version.
    • After it scans profiles, click the Home button and select Legacy of Kain: Defiance.
    • Change Antialiasing Compatability to: 0x00401840 (Kai Xin OL),
    • Gamma Correction to On, (OPTIONAL)
    • Line Gamma to Enabled, (OPTIONAL)
    • Antialiasing Mode to Override,
    • Antialiasing Setting to 4x, 8x, or 16x,
    • Transparency Supersampling to Supersampling. (OPTIONAL)
    • Scroll down to Dynamic Tiling and set to PS_DYNAMIC_TILING_ON
    • Click Apply Changes and Close Nvidia Inspector.

Enjoy a far Superior IQ to that of the inferior console versions.

Quick FYI the renderer can act weird, right now 0x00401840 gives the best return for quality and performance.

This does not seem to do anything for me. Edges of objects, grass, fences, etc., still flicker like crazy.

AA compatibility is set and shows up as Kai Xin OL after applying. defiance.exe is in the profile. AA Behavior Flags set to none.

Even when I set AA mode to 16Q CSAA and Transparency Supersampling to 8x the effect seems non existent. I think it simply does not get applied, as my GTX 690 does not even sweat a little with those extremely high AA settings.

This advice is a little outdated as there is now a "defiance" profile in inspector. Just leave the compatibility profile at 0x00000 or whatever the default is... set AA to override and itll work.

How does this work? Defiance.exe is still set in the Legacy of Kain profile after I reset it back to driver (314.22) defaults, and the Defiance profile has a d3d.exe. When I launch the game there is no d3d.exe running, only defiance.exe.

EDIT: When I add defiance.exe via Nvidia control panel, it still brings up the Legacy of Kain profile as well.

Is there a similar solution for AMD cards? I run games on nvidia for single monitor; however, for multi monitor I run AMD. I play the game on both pcs depending on my mood I'm in. So with that said, is catalyst the way to improve this. Not at home now but I think catalyst gives override options, is this the solution to smooth out the graphics? Will fiddle when I get home.

Not meaning to hijack thread for I am interested in the defiance vs legacy kain issue as well.

    Thank you,
