What is being done about PVP?

Since the DLC came out, getting a pvp match has been next to impossible. Usually ending with me needing to log out before I can even get a quick-match. Is anything being done about this? It appears to me the matchmaking in general needs an over-haul.. Pls dev input on this..

I hope they either hire a team specifically for the pvp side of things or just abandon the pvp side of things all together because I don't want them wasting manpower or resources in a subpar system that only a fraction of players actually take part in. The whole system needs to be taken to the drawing board and revamped from the ground up if they ever hope to get anywhere with it.

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

Some people do enjoy PvP the way it is. Sure, it could use some adjustments, but redesigning it from the ground up seems a little extreme.

For example, unified queues would be enough to solve the OP's problem, and are something that shouldn't be too hard to implement.

It really only needs a couple of simple changes and guidelines for future development. In the short term:
    • Change: Single, unified PvP queue - no separate queuing for match types, no separate queuing for shadow wars. You either queue up to PvP or you don't. Having all of these willing players split between match types does nothing to facilitate more matches played throughout the day.
    • Change: Infection textures need to not block aim. Just reduce their size, that's it.
    • Remove: Scopes that increase reliance on, and potency of, less-skilled weapons. I have no idea who thought we needed range extensions for BMGs and Infectors, but we do not.
    • Remove: Two-point shadow war matches. It just gives the edge to the leading team, and forces the losing team to throw themselves at the defending winners.
    • Remove: The amount of Volge emergencies. They interrupt the shadow wars everyone is forced to play for PvP, which feels more like a PvE affair nowadays.
    Long term:
    • Guideline: Weapon design. There's far too many weapons that do not require any semblance of aim, and they are too effective when considering this. Infectors and BMGs in particular are huge offenders.
    • Change: Matchmaking. It needs to factor in player rating of some form to better balance teams. There are far too many stomps in matches because the better players get matched on the same team.
    • Change: Waterfront needs to last longer. Change the win conditions to 50 points rather than 25.

There really isn't that much that needs to change to make PvP players happy, it's actually rather simple. The problem is Trion seems completely unwilling to speak with PvP players, considering not a single member of the team has posted in the PvP forums in months.

Those sets of changes wouldn't really make me happy. I don't believe one bit that the current system can flourish by implementing an iterative approach. I feel that it's fundamentally broken and it needs to be looked at from the ground up. I do agree Trion should pay more attention to it and communicate with us when they do decide to finally put some effort behind it. All of these bullet-point list of changes from everyone is all fine and well and I applaud people for their initiative... I just don't see it mattering much without having some kind of leadership position from Trion. In my experience, players are the worst game designers.

It's nothing more than conjecture on my part, and I do not assert my points are anything more than casual observation from a player. I would never expect Trion to take any feedback, from myself or anyone else, and directly implement it. Game developers tend to be smart enough to take feedback, acquire a general opinion of player perspective, and form a directive to resolve the issue.

I think everyone is in agreement about PvP needing some serious adjustment, it's just that those same people have different opinions on what the best solution is. To me, any change that goes in the general direction of what most people are requesting (save some of the misguided opinions on movement, loadouts, and EGO powers), is fine with me. I just want something positive done that encourages more participation and a better overall experience.

There is a simple reason why pvp ques are so long and only a small portion of the players participate: PVP sucks in Defiance and that's about it.

It would require a massive overhaul of the entire game to make it better but that will NOT happen, we all know that and those that don't will soon realize this.

Anyways, I will be PvPing again...in BF4. See you there soon!

Theres many things we all want obviously, we've seen ea others posts all over...

Heres one thing i think NEEDS to be implimented asap... Instead of choosing the map, id rather choose the dammed Type.

This way i dont have to choose the map, then leave choose the other, just to see its the same needed. Once a FULL queue is reached, guess what happens? a Vote. WHAAAAAT? Something every other game has? wtf? **** Chevota...

Yeah, a vote system after you choose your Gametype, who'da thunk it... And btw Leave the Waterfront win-tally alone. great for quick matches while Observatory is longer... They actually got that 1 right (waits for DLC 2 Waterfront to extend to 75 kill victory).

I really just want to see the queue system un-fudged. Like Nott pointed out, ALL pvp maps/modes should be tossed in the tumbler and whatever you get - you get. It's not that I don't like SWs. I just feel like playing the small stuff like waterfront to work on muh blade build.

I think they need to make the PVP dailies more generic to start with. Dont set a specific match type to get certain kills or captures. Shadow wars are all over the place now, which is a large reason for the long queues, and if you add in the sieges and major arkfalls... Well you get the picture.

Folks made a lot of other valid points I am not going to rehash here. Overall I think it needs more tweaking than burning down. Its a constant of any game that includes pvp. There are skilled players, players that exploit weak game design and folks like myself who kind of stink but enjoy it anyway. Its a tightrope walk to satisfy everyone.
