A difference, which is quite meaningful to me, is that Raid Rifts have some technique to killing the boss. Split this mob from that mob or they buff each other, turn the mob as it has a frontal etc. Defiance combat is so trivial as to not make them comparable.

I've yet to see a non-trinity multiplayer game were bosses weren't essentially nothing but a zergfest. Given that combat mechanics are even more simplistic in Defiance than most, I don't really see a way around it.
    When in doubt, circle strafe.

When not in doubt, circle strafe anyway

And see, that's always going to be the problem - do we use/need/want a trinity system to defeat everything, which would include a whole bunch of leveling issues like normal...

or do we want a "zerg fest" (love that term btw) of everyone working to swat a boss in a given area?

Me personally.. I want the zerg fest.. I'm tired of rolling up side characters (dps mainly) and showing up peoples "Ubar Tank" with some serious defense ability that defies their button mashing skills.. But what I really want with my fellow zerglings, is enemies with a higher starting HP, and a more drastic scaling arc, so that enemies become SERIOUSLY harder with the addition of new people. It seems like they've got this sort of figured out with the new DM arkfalls, but not quite sure. It's really hard to tell since whenever one of them pops, there's literally a swarm of people on it like nothing I've seen in Defiance. That many people swarming must be someone likes it
