I want to apologize that both demos had to be shortened. We originally had 30 minute slots (stuff happens in live shows and sometimes things get bumped but still - but that snafu won't happen again.) We will do encores of both shows so you guys can get a deeper look.

All-in-all I hope you enjoyed the part of the raid we showed.

Does this mean you are from the correct side of the pond ?

Neither of us hit the cord. We were sitting already when it happened. We even asked them to check it live but the plug that was loose was in the power brick, not the connection to the laptop, so the crew didn't see it and said we were okay.

You're supposed to agree and then say you're going to feed the hamsters.
I'm not giving you guys grief for it. I slept through the live stream. Painkillers are fun.

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

Who cares? Is any sane person going to be watching twitch and think themselves, "Herp-derp, dat game must sukk kuz teh powerz on teh laptop went out!"

And it's RIFT so, again, why do any of us care? I don't play games like RIFT.

There are a lot of people on these forums who just need to step away from the computer and re-evaluate their priorities and stop wasting their time.

This thread is not only pointless in a general context but completely unrelated to Defiance.

    Who. Gives. A. ****.

This was a demo on-stage at PAX, right?

So basically, they have 5 minutes to set up after the last folks leave the stage, or something like that, and they have to be able to get in, set up, and get out ASAP because whoever is next is frothing and drooling to get their turn on the stage?

Microsoft having the beta of Windows 95 fail on every single computer at the local computer show, while IBM and Apple were across the hall -- while IBM had an active advertising campaign against the Windows Blue Screen of Death -- that was an embarrassing demo (esp. since they didn't get it resolved until 2 hours before the show ended). Thankfully just an observer on that one.

My standing up before a VP at a bank and demonstrating software, having the voice response unit (the thing you hear when you dial in) suddenly switch to a badly impersonated Hitler, that was a little more embarrassing -- at least to me personally. Having the alpha-test version of the software with me that had unspecified bugs, and having it crash constantly as well throughout the process -- that just made it worse.

Consider the probable audience on that one...

Anyway, the thing is -- you know, in EverQuest Planes of Power, there was a scripted encounter that when you defeated it, crashed the entire shard and rendered whoever had been in the fight unable to log in until the GMs intervened due to a bug. Whole shard. Bam, dead. Because you killed a raid mob normally.

And so there are a lot worse things to happen during a demo.

Keep in mind, usually the whole time, you're just going "please, please, PLEASE don't let Global chat go into a Chuck Norris phase while I'm giving this demo."

Damn, some of you act like you've never made a mistake or had something go wrong during an interview or presentation. Wait until you get some more experience under your belt, sometimes no matter how well you prepare things go wrong, it's how calm you stay and and how well you cope with it that counts.

    I second that notion.
