Easy, can't log into the game or access your character unless you pay your undue balance on trion website. All character data is saved on their servers.

You heard right friend. In an attempt to bring back their player base they're going to start paying us a nominal hourly fee to play this game again.

Where are these rumors coming from? If anything, I would not put it beyond them to come up with a 'premium' service that costs a monthly fee which is something seen in most over seas F2P games. Trion is obviously in major debt so they will be looking for ways to gouge more money out of the few players left.
