If the game is actually selling for $20 in 3 months you probably won't want to pick it up.

Rift has a monthly fee, defiance does not. Big difference.
    Platform: PC
    Character: Blackwolfe (EU)

    Rolling with the Red Thugs!

If you wait 4 months, there might not be anyone still playing. It all depends on how they continue to develop the game if players will stay. But if you aren't interested in it right now, you probably won't be in 4 months. It's a good game, but I don't know how long people are going to stick around for unfortunately.

Do whatever you want, why do you need random strangers to tell you what to do?

And yet, when people purchase this game and dislike it, the 1st thing people say is "you should've done more research".

For the love of gawd, make up yall ****ing mind already, can he research the game or cant he..lol

Eh. I wouldn't consider asking people for their opinions to be research. Unless they were developing a sample set of responses to that question.

Watching longplays, checking out the mechanics, builds, backstory, watching the show and reading the forums would be research to my mind.

To answer the OP's question however: Sure, go ahead and buy it. Or don't buy it.

I usually tell people to toss a coin. If it comes up with a result they're still hesitant about, they should go the other way.

Tails you buy it now, heads you wait and make the decision months down the line.

If it comes up tails and you're still not sure, wait and make the decision months down the line.

honestly, if money is THAT tight for you that you'd risk missing out on fun for several months.. just to save what, 30 bucks? then I'd advise waiting.. its really not THAT much.

I'd wait a week or two to see if they get the most glaring issues under control. Other wise you may just get your first great weapon just to lose it again because of the disappearing items bug.

Content wise, the prequel missions are gone and there was nothing adequately added yet. So right now you are not losing out on anything by waiting.

I was in the alpha and beta tests and personally I'm waiting until I can pick up a copy for under $30. Just too many changes toward the end that I didn't like, and I'm not really too bothered about missing the episodic content because I can just find videos of it on youtube.

Bought via Steam today £34.95... No major complaints from me. I hope to see the chat made more 'mmo friendly' and I wish for a less clunky UI, but I doubt that will ever come being cross platform. Overall I am enjoying it and would recommend it to friends.
