    Maybe I'm missing something here because I'm not really understanding what the problem with this is in general. I mean what are we talking here, a 5%-10% increase in potential max damage per EGO "tier"?

    Don't get me wrong, I do NOT want Defiance to begin copying all the traditional MMO mechanics until it loses it's flavor but would this really be such a bad thing? They haven't given us any details on how they plan to do it yet so it doesn't really seem fair to decry the change until we know what it actually means to us.

    There was another post I saw a while back that compared a 2034 EGO SAW that did 404 DMG to a 4900 EGO SAW that did 424 DMG. Now, I know this is the SAW pre-nerf but the EGO 4900 weapon has a 4.7% damage increase over the EGO 2034 weapon and that's not terribly crazy.

    So, what, higher EGO players will kill things a bit faster than other players? Perhaps the damage percentage increases per EGO tier would be different based on the weapon types to keep things a bit more balanced, who knows? The point is, a change like this if implemented properly would make a lot of people happy without breaking the experience for the rest of us.

    I agree with this, this would definitely make a huge impact on the shooter side of this MMO. A gun game should have only an absolute tiny almost unnoticeable increase in weapon damage of the same type. Gun games have always been about player skill not "the best weapon" there should never be a best. Further increasing the damage gap between the lowest items and the highest, will make this all about gear rather than player. As it is now, I'm getting almost double the amount of kills as the highest killing lower level players, using a pump shotgun, while they are using medium and long range weapons. I can see the imbalance already. Further increasing that will cause congregating in certain areas of maps to not be overpowered by higher players. In which place, it will take this game from MMOTPS and push it more towards MMOARPG. Weapons need to be better balanced in the game, but increasing damage and armor more even slightly is going to create division among high and low level players. Luckily, I'm in the 3k ego range now, but I wouldn't want to do co-op or arkfalls with someone like me if I was in the 500's and having someone my level now, stealing every possible kill I could make.
    I cannot believe I didn't notice I misspelled Vicious LOL. Looks like it should be pronounced "Ficus Blood" now. Imma tree killa yo!

    Like Arsenic said, the system that Trick was talking about was the system that was in place during the original Alpha phase of testing. It's a system that almost to a one the alpha testers REALLY liked, it was well balanced, and still maintained the horizontal progression for weapons and skills.

    People need to take a pill and relax before the thing is even implemented, the "ego zone up-push" isn't that big to make such a drastic change to the entire game mechanic, and infact was supposed to be in the game for launch.

    Trick didn't say that they plan to reimplement alpha's damage progression. I have no idea how you came to that conclusion.

    This is just like a grenade-gate; another pointless and arbitrary change to one of the mechanics that actually works. Guess this game will just be another boring gear check.

    The point is, how many veteran players do you see wishing they did more damage to make the all-around easy encounters even easier?

    Best case scenario, this is just another in a long line of band-aid fixes, this time to appease the high EGO players who, admittedly, have been screwed by the system.

    Worst case scenario... Hell I don't think we could even imagine how badly this could go, especially when Trion keeps bringing new and exciting ways to surprise us.

    This game needs less band-aid fixes and more thought put into what is actually wrong with the game and how best to fix it.

    Ok.. do the math on this one with me.. and try to keep up, I know you've only got 10 fingers and 10 toes LOL j/k

    Here's the thing: With the recent draw down in staff, do you REALLY think the new team is going to make an epically game changing modification to the combat system like tiered weapons stats? Heck no their not, that's a MASSIVE undertaking.. with a game that has what.. over 100 different types of weapons.. let's go in to each of them and set up "tier modifiers" that make them into "End Game Grinders".

    Yeah.. that's not going to happen. The system that was in Alpha testing (pre-vanilla launch) had about a 5% boost to ONE STAT of a weapon as you progressed in Ego levels. For example:

    Tachmag pulsar at 1599 does 127 damage (an EXAMPLE, not a quote)...
    Tachmag pulsar at 2599 does 134 damage (again, an EXAMPLE)
    Tachmag pulsar at 3599 does 139 damage..

    so on and so forth

    This doesn't change anything really, since a level 3600 player SHOULD be doing more damage by a good sized margin than a level 50 player, what with perks, weapons skill levels, weapons mastery's.

    This really is NOT a system that I see as "breaking the core mechanic" of the game at all, because I've already played with it in Alpha testing. Infact, I was rather upset and disappointed when that little "level perk" wasn't put into live.

    Now.. if I'm TOTALLY WRONG, and the new dev team is working hand over fist, hours ontop of hours of overtime, and is completely rehauling the entire combat mechanic to eliminate the horizontal progression and turn Defiance into nothing more than a mindless, soul numbing, life eating gear grind.. then I will gladly and proudly grab myself an extra large serving of humble pie and protest it right along side of you.

    But as a manager who understands a bit about time management.. there's no way I see this being the critical change that people are worried about.. the coding is just too extensive.

    With the established track record I can't see where you get such an optimistic outlook on this.
    I do think a bit of wait and see is a good idea but at this point I cant say I have a great deal of hope that this or any of the other changes they have in mind are a good idea.
    I don't understand why they keep fixing things that already work with their limited staff instead of fixing the things that really need fixing.

    Now this here, I will agree with 110%. Frankly, of all the "grenade-gate" sensation running amok on these forums, the only thing about it that really twists my oreos apart is that it's NOT something that NEEDS fixed. There's a lot of bugs in the game that need fixed BEFORE they start tweaking and toying with the core mechanics of the game.

    As for my "optimistic outlook".. well.. I generally have one a day concerning Defiance, it's normally rather short lived and chock full o' nutty insights.. this thread just so happened to garner it today.. so enjoy! LOL
