The patches are going to go through regardless of whether or not you buy any DLC.

Perhaps I misinterpreted some of the posts, apologies, if so.
Here is the problem. They are making a big deal about how the DLc will offer these things. A new UI, the grenade overhaul and the ability to go inside of the arkfalls. Granted going inside arkfalls may be cool, but I have seen the pics, they are nothing more than maps we have already seen (the Nim fight). The Ui was broken, then they broke it more, now they are touting the new UI as part of the DLC. Grenades as well, there was nothing inherently wrong with how grenades were implemented, but they have to fix them anyways, which in a way breaks how some people play and how much time and effort they went into getting certain grenades.

All of these things should have been implemented at the beginning, and not later as part of a paid DLC. So it feels and seems as if we are paying for things that should be a part of free patches that are available before DLC comes out.

    :EDIT:
Meanwhile, actual story content in DLC is being pushed off to the side, and the back burner so to speak.

I think an important thing to note here is that two things happen when we update: we have free updates and we have paid (DLC) updates.

A lot of the things you guys are talking about (UI) will be part of free updates. We're not going to make you pay for better chat. We owe that to you.

If we want this game to continue on and someday get better, the players need to support it. +1 Kudos
It's their job to make me want to spend money on it, not my job to give them money & hope they do something I want with it.

The two games I played extensively before Defiance (well, at all, really), were Fallout New Vegas and Borderlands 2.
After playing those games and the attached DLC, the 'story' in the Castithan pack was a joke. A couple of data recorders?
It's just aggravating because they've introduced us to this world that I want to know more about, yet they REFUSE to progress with it.
I'm willing to give them my money, but they're not really releasing anything I want to pay for.

So that means you actually consider the first DLC to be story related content. Wow. That's not a good sign for the future DLC. What was the story in DLC 1. A few lines about Castithan castes. Seriously is this what you consider story? I try to love you guys but you sure don't make it easy.

Then stop touting the UI fixes and such as part of the DLC. For that is exactly what it looks like.

I was talking about future DLCs, actually. And we're not talking about data recorders. They will be in future DLCs but will never be the only way of telling new story.

Ive come to the conclusion that when statements like the ones we've seen in this thread from Trion come out, that it is something akin to playing on the perception of others and word games. To them, a simple text of lore or a paragraph of story added constitutes story content. It reminds me of Bill Cosby trying to justify chocolate cake to serve up for breakfast to his kids in one routine he used to do. "Eggs! Milk!" They're in chocolate cake! That's nutrition!... Chocolate cake coming right up."

Another example would be the used car salesman that advertises car with a free extra set of tires. The salesman plays on the buyers perception that the tires will be of good quality and for the car. The salesman cackles as he hands the buyer 2 dry rotted bicycle tires and points to the advertisement stating no where that he was offering "car" tires or tires in good condition.

That's the sort of techniques employed upon us by Trion with regards to misdirection.

Right, they're releasing them at the same time. That way, it makes the DLC seem more than it actually is. Another misdirect.

    Agreed.

-Fixing- the horrible UI but touting it as part of the "free update" part of the DLC is reprehensible.
