What's free and what isn't?
Since Dahanese yesterday stated that the ui change would be free it got me thinking. What exactly will be the "free" stuff offered in the next DLC?
Trion is touting 6 major points in the next DLC they are:
Instanced arkfalls: we can go inside them now, and call them down
Spikes: group buffs
Stims: self buffs and "healing potions"
New enemies: self explanitory
Ui Upgrade: new and improved UI (maybe, we'll see)
Grenades:a complete revamp of how grenades are used and acquired
Now according to Dahanese, the ui is going to be free, okie dokie, so lets strike that off the list. Is the grenade revamp free? Most people that I have seen are happy with the way grenades are currently implemented, so am I. So why the change, and why is it coming out with DLC 2? So, that is what I think they are going to offer for "free" along with basic bug fixes.
Now onto the paid content.
New Enemies: From what I can see, these new enemies are nothing more than new skins on old models. If I am going to pay for these, I want all new models and an upgrade to the enemy AI. New enemies should be unique looking, not a rehashed version of something else in the game. Especially if I am going to pay for it.
Spikes: group buffs, seriously.....you want us to pay for something that should have been able to be chosen as an EGO power from day one. These things come standard in ALL MMOs, except this one. In Defiance we get to pay for group buffs.
Stims: self buffs and healing "potions," same as spikes. These should have been implemented on day one as drops from killed mobs. Once again we are being asked to pay for things that come standard in all other MMOs except Defiance.
Instanced arkfalls: this is the ONLY justification I can see Trion asking us to pay for the new DLC. And so far I am unimpressed. You go inside the arkfall and it's just a rehashed version of maps we've already seen in game. Sure you can call them down, and the enemies inside are supposed to be raid like, but there is only so much you can do with this.
Ok, so lets just for a moment say and the sake of arguement that spikes and stims are part of the free content. Is calling down an arkfall and going inside it, really worth $10.00? The answer is hell no. For $10.00 I want to see a new area opened up with a new mission line, maybe 2 to 3 hours of new gameplay. Something that is critical to the area of San Fran but not critical to the overall story arc of Defiance (game and show). Not this fluff, not this junk that should have been implemeneted since day one, not this fluff that comes standard in all MMOs with the exception of Defiance. Hell, big MMOs like SWTOR, WoW and Guild Wars put out free patches that are twice as big as Defiance's main game with 3 times the content, and 5 times the gameplay.
I want justification for this, and I am sure the playerbase does as well.
