Anyway, on topic. To confirm it is only their name and nothing else. Even the race could be changed along with sex if the name was ambiguous enough. In a way I am glad it wasn't me, I own my name and would put up a good stink if they tried to rewrite me.

Either way it'll be interesting to see how they show EGO in the television portion....If they do.

Some years ago on the GateWorld Forum a poster there kept pushing very hard for his idea to become part of the show. His idea was this:

We find out that the last few years had all been a dream for the main character and that character is actually inside a massive matrix like world.

That's right they wanted to change the story completely, for no reason, a show that was in the middle of a great run, that had no sign of slowing down and they wanted to essentially retcon the whole thing away.

And that was just the tip of the iceberg, other fans want conclusions to EVERYTHING leaving nothing open in the slightest way. Such an action would destroy future stories and severely limit the show.

Fans want certain characters to get together, despite it being said that such things were impossible and they would probably ruin how the show was run.

Fans wanted pretty much every dead character to come back to life, granted they did that with two main characters, but fans wanted ALL the dead ones to come back.

As you can see fans become invested in the characters and story of the show, in some cases to obsession, but writers tend not to so they can see how to make a good story for everyone and not for that one guy who wants things his way.

You can't really group up people so easily.
There are just as many fans with good ideas as there are with moronic ones.

You can't say all fans are stupid because of a handful of really loud and annoying few that just wont' shut up with their stupid idea.

It's why so many countries hate the US. lol They only see the very loud and very stupid, and don't bother to look at everyone else.
Of course it doesn't help that the majority of those idiots are in charge of the country. lol ZING!

Obviously, I'd hate to be grouped with the crazies as well. But what I'm saying is that most ideas are insane. Of course there are good ones, I believe all my ideas for shows are good ones but I also know that many people will assume my ideas are stupid. It's relative to the person, although occasionally you get the ideas that are universally hated.

As I said, fans are invested in the show a little too much sometimes and so they shouldn't be given any control over it at all.

Bud, you aren't making any sense. The game/show's unique selling point is their intertwined symbiosis. If you advertise that they are "giving you the chance to change the show", then from a RPG standpoint, I expect more.

The adding of a player name tag does feel like lazy to me. Like adding just data recorders to add story content.

As I stated before, playerchoices can be defined well within borders by the creator of the game/show. It lets the player feel like in control of the experience, while still maintaining the overal storyline and pushing it in the direction Trion/Syfy wants.

Players are never in control of creating a game, thats not what were paying for. It's the experience and joy that comes with the adventure.
Signed off. See you with the next DLC.

If you look at my character it fits in with the show perfectly,
looks like who ever picked that char does not know what he/she is doing makin desicions like that
    makes e sad sad sad
So your character wasn't picked and you're sad? God, grow up.

and the reason that both unrelated anecdotes are irrelevant? Because the contest was, and I quote,
"Called "Play the Game. Join the Show," this in-game contest pits players against the game’s Arkfall events to see who can rise to the top and become the ultimate Ark Hunter. The winner’s character will appear during the second season of the TV series."
Not put in a character we already designed and you get to influence the look and name of the 5 contenders.

Yes the fine print did explain they would write the character's back story and pick from the five finalists and was very clear. This was why I, and many others, had no interest.
"remember that I am an ***; though it be not written down, yet forget not that I am an ***."
Censored??? it's frellin' Shakespeare ! Twits!

Indeed. And here's a concrete example though of another contest for a different show that was done brilliantly with fan participation:

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/do...n-by-fans.html

"Death Is The Only Answer", written by children from Oakley CE Junior School in Basingstoke, UK.

But I guess our esteemed supposed "wiki" owner will say those children "suck" too or come up with some other equally silly dismissal.

You NEVER had a chance to win it anyway ....

That's right ... You never had a chance to win it anyway! This contest, like all the others in defiance have been Won by exploiters. People who used game glitches to win them, or hacks. The numbers when compared to the time limits simply don't add up!
For example..... the kill the most elemental hellbugs in 1 hour winner , averaged 2.1 elemental hellbugs per second. Over 120 per minute! IMPOSSIBLE!! < No where in the game did that many Elemental hellbugs spawn that fast normally > Unless they used an exploit, which they did, the DEV's know about these and Awarded the exploiters the Wins anyway! So when i say you DID NOT have ANY CHANCE to WIN, I Mean it!!!

This and other problems is why I hardly log in and tons more DO NOT log back in! I am probably not far away from giving it up myself, I am just so tired of all the BS!

I am 5000 Ego, 103/105 pursuits < Should be 104/105, even a ticket didn't get this fixed > and i Played since Alpha testing. I am not a Noob, or a Whiner, Nor did i just start this game. My math is solid. Go back and look at the winning numbers for previous contests and break it down into normal time and you will find they Do Not add up within the limitation of the game, they mostly all Exploiters! If any of them were won ligit, its lost in all the cheaters who already won! They even waited so long to post a winner in one contest the player had since Quit defiance.
