You type everything out to chat with people in-game except in a party. In a party you have the option of using a keyboard or chatting with the mic.

I see where you come from mate, but you rarely see anyone using the chat window. Its not a big deal for me, but I thought it would be cool to get in contact with other players. What kind of keyboard do I need? A normal USB keyboard?!
