Has anyone confirmed that SweetFX will get you banned?
We really need a GM to comment on this.
Not allowing SweetFX is the reason why I quit planetside 2, game looks like garbage without it.

Good thing I never downloaded SweetFX I had a feeling it could be a bannable offense, hence why I asked on the forums. Myrken was one of the only people to respond, being incredibly high and mighty about how I was uninformed and it wont cause a ban and is not against the TOS. Well Good thing I never listened too him lol, looks like he never actually read the TOS for defiance until now. It really is a shame about the ban though, Myrkens presets did look really nice and he did a really good job. I do feel bad that he's been banned for it, My condolences.
Hopefully they can lift the ban, as for me though I am steering very clear of this. I will just play the stock game.
I just got the game and i get most of my enjoyment from great visual in a game, is using SweetFx really a bannable offense? Has anyone else gotten banned because of this?
EDIT: I have actually just sent a question to support regarding SweetFX. Lets hope for the best![]()
I'm going to have to play Devil's Advocate on this one folks.
SweetFX, however harmless it may seem, breaks the EU in that you are altering game files and folders. This can lead to all sorts of issues with patching, game stability, etc. If you ever need Customer Support for whatever reason, and you have altered files... well... they can't help you, now can they?
Also, first it's just improved graphics. Then it's graphics that allow you some sort of a tactical advantage. For instance:
In APB Reloaded, there exists a certain graphical shader that allows all world objects (including player characters) to be crowned with a black hue. Basically, it makes the game look like Borderlands. The problem is, you can see these outlines through smoke, which naturally, is an element in the game that provides a loss in Line of Sight. Essentially, it's a smoke hack.
I'm not saying people who are using SweetFX are doing this. I'm saying I'm sure it's more than capable of doing it. More so, I'm sure once some sort of a tweak has been discovered that will allow for some kind of a gameplay advantage... people are going to use it... without question.
Also, as great and wonderful as Myrk was to provide everyone with his work... he was never authorized to do it in the first place. So while I hate to say it... he had it coming, especially since he was also over-playing his authority (which is and always was non-existent) in telling others that they could do it as well. Not only did he break the EU, he also inspired others to do likewise.
Granted, I'm not against modding in general. And truthfully, his tweaks were pretty sweet, hence the name. But this ain't Skyrim, folks. I don't know of any MMO that allows for this kind of graphical overhaul without some sort of a line being crossed. Clearly, this demonstration by Trion is here to inform us that we are not allowed to alter files - period. I would feel especially bad if this weren't clearly expressed in the EU in the first place. But... it was.
So I have no pity for anyone who gets banned. To me, this is basically a bunch of whining about receiving potential consequences that you chose to ignore. Unfortunately for you... Trion chose not to ignore them. I'm sorry.. but that's the way it is. Stop breaking the rules.
although i have been primarly a pc gamer for 25 years i do not subscribe to the notion that pc games have to be moddable or should be moddable, especially mmorpg's.
i have removed the not-sweetfx injector i was using (it's a skyrim mod, not customizable, just drag and drop) for now.
As my ban came after a friend used my rig without permission I'm rather certain the Devs and GMs are overlooking Sweetfx as its does not alter the client. Also Directx is not owned by Trion worlds so they cannot claim ownership of those files expressly. However according to their lawyers who write their TOS players can be treated badly by the company for anything at any time for any reason without reason. As well might i add that you sign consent to have your whole pc scanned while running defiance for whatever it is they deem a bannable offense. I greatly appreciate it when people leap aboard a forum to Dis others having not read or understood the person they disrespect's posts.
Piont is so far Trion is taking an SOE stance which is bad.
Its use at your own risk but same could now be said for any product made by them due to their agreement you waive all rights to privacy when using anything they develop on your machine. Also currently you could be banned for saying something they don't like in ts3 for example and guess what "they wont tell you why".
Problem here isn't Sweetfx its the current companies policies towards its players as human beings.
Read the terms you agree to they're obscene.
http://trionworlds.com/en/legal/terms-of-use/
8. Account Suspension/Deletion
TRION MAY SUSPEND, MODIFY, TERMINATE OR DELETE ANY ACCOUNT AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON OR FOR NO REASON, WITH OR WITHOUT NOTICE TO YOU. Accounts terminated by Trion for any type of abuse, including without limitation a violation of these Terms of Use or a Game EULA, will not be reactivated for any reason. For purposes of explanation and not limitation, most account suspensions, terminations and/or deletions are the result of violations of this Terms of Use or any applicable Game EULA.
As sweetfx is not a breach of the EULA due to how it works and functions It shouldn't be bannable. However as their TOS are written anything down to farting while in the presence of a GM is bannable if the gm feels offended. Or simply doesn't like you.
Remember to mute your mic if running defiance they have the right to record everything down to emails you send. Read the TOS if you don't believe me and if you still don't get them ask a lawyer to read them for you.
Do i personally believe they'd go that far "no" is it out of the realm of possibility "no" as its in their legal agreements its obviously been considered at some point by the company. Is this for personal security of their product "yes" do they violate your personal privacy to do so "yes" however to play their games you agree to this treatment that simple.

If we as Pc users would have gotten a advanced settings page,so we could tweak the graphics our selfs
then we wouldnt need no SweetFx.
But we are set on a low due to other platforms.
If we would have played crossplatform fine all same view, yet we are on a island alone atm.
So why cant we have what we (pc) have in each game???? Advanced graphical settings.
Either add the adv graph settigns or let Pc users use SweetFx,if necceserey even pre defined on that is kk with Trion in colabiration with some Pc folks.
The game looks tenfold better with SweetFx.
Dustykat did the same thing this mornin after reading this thread.
I agree fsol and I worked hard to provide what they screwed pc players on during this hasty launch due to i would assume scyfys tight deadlines. Sadly due to their Legal stance no one can do anything but hope that common sense prevails in their player management departments. So to allow people to continue enjoying the game with user made additions such as Sweetfx that don't give an unfair advantage but improve the game for those who want nicer graphics.
Sweetfx falls in line with everything in their 15. Addon Policy in the TOS but as the gm banning me said its supposed to be only for Rift even though nowhere in their TOS does it state that and is presented in an all game encompassing way.
Also discussing the TOS in a legal manner as its a legal document with the GMs seems to now constitute "threatening legal actions" for which they will promptly cut you off even though its their job to enforce those rules, and you have to speak of it in a legal sense do to the type of document it is even if you have not expressed any legal action against them. Go figure that one out.
However my point is what my account was suspended for was a just action due to my friends negligence. As i now know what he did. However the reason i posted this is to inform people of their current rules that are agreed to by you, to use their product and not to bash their staff. I do hope that they don't become unreasonable with their players and community mods and add ons due to paranoia as SOE did.
As for my post Sweetfx not being against the TOS its not breaking the EULA however "anything" they deem can be against the TOS so i stand corrected after reading their legal documents and am not above admitting that. Just remember "anything" can get you banned even looking at pr0n that is against their tastes if deemed so. Kinda ridiculous so nothing is a sure thing in this case if you do it on your pc it has a potential to possibly get you banned.
I would like to add their GM staff seems sensible enough to tell what constitutes a threat to their product if it stays that way everything should be fine for the community.
From what Ive currently seen it seems Legal implications may be keeping the current GMs from posting a response to as if its white listed by them or not. I also have stated to them directly they stand to lose a large player base if ruling it a malicious software as its not and is making the game much more enjoyable for many. As of now its seems as there's been no bans or warnings against it and they cant currently comment which would drive me nuts as a GM, and that their going by the say nothing do nothing policy here. Which essentially is like saying "we aren't free to comment but its probably something were overlooking" Its been done this way in the past on many occasions by other companies too. That however is my opinion based on what Ive seen so far please do not miss interpret my opinion as fact as it is my opinion.
