He looked at his preset txt and it is set to run the SweetFX_Settings.txt that he got from someone else on this thread and he has the correct one not the default one. Everything from the patcher to the defiance.exe is set to run as admin. Manually downloaded the d3dx9_43.dll and put it in all his game folders and windows/system and windows/system32 still nothing.
For starters already went over run as admin does nothing as Sweetfx doesn't do anything to the .exe or patcher any more so then an overlay does so that method shouldn't fix this. Also sweetfx reads from its own copy of dx9.dll that stays with it. So replacing the windows version also has nothing to do with Sweetfx. So the reason neither things fixed the problem is neither of those things has to do with what your trying to fix.

To start Sweetfx needs to be unzipped and have all files placed in the live folder in the install directory. Also the settings are easier done if the preset you download overwrites the default "SweetFX_Settings" text as opposed to dropping it into the presets folder. Is your friend running any overlays or graphics card monitoring software this can sometimes cause sweetfx to close the program when launching.

Read page three of this thread if you haven't already for more information and links.

Also as I'm currently upset by the treatment Ive had with Trion and their policies I currently will be leaving the game for awhile, and wont be posting here as I feel they don't support their community as they claim too. Even when the community has to fix what they neglected to have ready at launch.

Hopefully this changes and we can see it in their support of things the community enjoys and creates for "free" to further "their" financial gains.

Actually explained it just like that tried both copy and paste and write over the existing SweetFX_Settings.txt. Friend has a fresh install of Windows 7 Ult. 64 bit with the only things installed being Firefox and Defiance.

Then somethings off I'm running win7 pro 64bit and have it set up the way i explained and it runs fine. If its a fresh install of windows something may still be missing like an updated DX run time. Make sure you have the latest copy of sweetfx. 1.4 from here.http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/..._download.html Maybe windows is blocking something or UAC is affecting it.
I can only guess what the problem is and give the proper install instructions. If somethings preventing it from running correctly I'm not there so i cant see what may be the issue, I can just inform you where everything needs to be to work.

Maybe its just one of those days.

Holy flaming monkey balls batman! This is AWSOME! I had heard my friends talk about this, but had never given it much thought until today, my mind is officially blown.

However according to their lawyers who write their TOS players can be treated badly by the company for anything at any time for any reason without reason. As well might i add that you sign consent to have your whole pc scanned while running defiance for whatever it is they deem a bannable offense. I greatly appreciate it when people leap aboard a forum to Dis others having not read or understood the person they disrespect's posts.

Piont is so far Trion is taking an SOE stance which is bad.

Its use at your own risk but same could now be said for any product made by them due to their agreement you waive all rights to privacy when using anything they develop on your machine. Also currently you could be banned for saying something they don't like in ts3 for example and guess what "they wont tell you why".

Problem here isn't Sweetfx its the current companies policies towards its players as human beings.

Read the terms you agree to they're obscene.

    8. Account Suspension/Deletion

TRION MAY SUSPEND, MODIFY, TERMINATE OR DELETE ANY ACCOUNT AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON OR FOR NO REASON, WITH OR WITHOUT NOTICE TO YOU. Accounts terminated by Trion for any type of abuse, including without limitation a violation of these Terms of Use or a Game EULA, will not be reactivated for any reason. For purposes of explanation and not limitation, most account suspensions, terminations and/or deletions are the result of violations of this Terms of Use or any applicable Game EULA.

As sweetfx is not a breach of the EULA due to how it works and functions It shouldn't be bannable. However as their TOS are written anything down to farting while in the presence of a GM is bannable if the gm feels offended. Or simply doesn't like you.

Remember to mute your mic if running defiance they have the right to record everything down to emails you send. Read the TOS if you don't believe me and if you still don't get them ask a lawyer to read them for you.

Do i personally believe they'd go that far "no" is it out of the realm of possibility "no" as its in their legal agreements its obviously been considered at some point by the company. Is this for personal security of their product "yes" do they violate your personal privacy to do so "yes" however to play their games you agree to this treatment that simple.
You broke the rules, or your friend did - whatever. I've heard this a million times when people get banned/suspended in an online game. It's always the same story. "I didn't do anything... my friend did when I wasn't looking... all I have is this completely shady, but technically "legal", alteration of some of the game files..."

That being said - I've never heard of someone being banned from a game... just because. Give me an incident where this happened, and I promise you, with all truth known... someone isn't being completely honest.

Look, I'm not trying to scratch you, dude. I just don't fall for the typical BS, no matter how "legal" you make it sound. Bottom line - somewhere inside the TRION/DEFIANCE folders on your Hard Drive - you changed stuff when you were not authorized to change it. Or... well... your friend did... when you weren't looking.

In either event... this whole mess really is that simple, and you're making them out to be some sort of badguy? How?

exactly. with the amount of eye candy that sweetfx adds to any game with very minimal performance loss, a company would have to be insane to ban it.

simply add/allow it to the game files and add a GUI ingame to tweak the sweetfx settings, everyone wins.

Zascha try warz(failz) if you want to see ppl get banned for no reason.

Ppl got banned after just buying the game not even registered the copy
Ppl got banned due to picking up items trough the wall(you could see it on the floor and take it)
Ppl got banned for making 10 kills vs no deaths ect

+to many reasons but yes there is your game if you want to be banned for no reason.

Bad example maybe as Hammerpoint is worthless but hey its out there.

+ hope to see ye back soon Myrken.

Ever heard of the Halo Reach credit resets?

There was this exploit found early on after release that allowed people to repeat a "daily" mission over and over. The mission was balanced to give credits (equivalent to experience points) once a day, basically, but if you ran it 20 times it would give you of course an immense amount of quick credits.

Bungie reset ALL of the major exploiters of it via an AUTOMATIC system, a bot, that would reset credits and temporarily suspend credit earning for players that fit certain criteria. How accurate was it? They were confident that it was 99.99999% accurate, that only the most incredibly rare circumstance would slip through. Nobody believed them.

So what did they do? They created a forum thread that said "Do you believe you were wrongfully punished? Post here and I will PERSONALLY look at the data to be sure." The thread came with a warning: if you attempted to deceive him (this developer), your credit reset would go from a 1 day credit earning ban (and reset) to a 2 week one (I think it was 2 weeks, anyway it was significant).

So this developer did, he checked every single claim and request. The funny part? Nobody, and I mean NOBODY was actually innocent. They tried, oh they tried, and they lost horribly. Every single one was guilty twice over and was punished. And we're not just talking the developer said "nope, you lied" and that was that, he posted the DETAILS of their exploiting, the EXTENT of how badly they abused the system, and did so publicly in humiliating fashion.

The story goes that one guy actually was innocent and was apologized to, and everything restored. I didn't read that post, but then, the thread was hundreds of pages long by the end.

The lesson learned from that experience (just reading it for me) is that in almost every single case a respectable game company will not ban you if it is undeserved. When I see someone making claims on a forum, I always, ALWAYS assume they're as guilty as their punishment warrants.

Good times. Safe journeys all - have fun and don't break dem rules!
