"Your Hard Drive" being the keyword. Not Trion's, or anyone else's for that matter. As I've said in another thread, software installed on my computer is like a guest in my house. We treat each other with mutual respect, but if that guest of mine tries to force me to do something I don't want to do, or the opposite, tries to prevent me from doing something that is no threat to him or anyone else at all, he gets kicked out the door. Forcing people to not use image enhancing software is like that guest trying to force me to put down my colored glasses that I very much enjoy wearing.

That being said - I've never heard of someone being banned from a game... just because. Give me an incident where this happened, and I promise you, with all truth known... someone isn't being completely honest.

Look, I'm not trying to scratch you, dude. I just don't fall for the typical BS, no matter how "legal" you make it sound. For one reading threads before making accusatory comments would be wise. I stated an apology to Trion as the program i was banned for was cause for a legit ban, who used it doesn't matter my account was open at the time the end. That being said Trion's current ban protocol is out of whack with reality as any time they ban someone for something they cant tell you what exactly it was. Which defeats the purpose of banning someone as they may unwittingly do it again and in that second offense, Trion would be to blame for the ban. As they were not up front with what the program they banned the user for the first time was.

Essentially making banning the way its being done a pointless endeavor and not helping its players, but just insulting as they aren't being informed as to what they did wrong.

That being said that's something that needs reckoning in their legal dept. So as lasse B puts it i totally agree.

Except in this case imagine them punching you in the face because they don't like your colored glasses and not telling you why they did so. That's how their policy stands to work currently that is not consumer friendly at all.

its been a long time since Ive used this but until their current legal dept can work together with their GM and CM dept. To make bans more understandable by the consumer the method they are using deserves my heresy stamp. Trion is not to blame for defending their product and should, just the methods used in handling the bans issued with the consumers needs a lot of work.

Long time since Ive used this...

Lulz forgot how sexy that stamp looked XD

Also to ban sweetfx would also mean banning almost 2000 or more current players for a program that does less to inhibit the game and more to improve it, than any overlay on the market.

If Trion wishes to understand in every detail the way sweetfx works they can discuss it with me and ninja. As ninja owns and built the database, and knows the man who wrote the program to begin with. Is not some super secret hack the whole thing was always meant to be a free public program to help improve games on pc. Ninja and i discussed in in depth yesterday and as it stands, Any shader modification to enable any sort of cheating would have to be done through recoding your DX9.dll completely. which is not able to be done with sweetfx. Also radeon pro would have to be banned as it can use sweetfx shaders along with any catalyst graphics adjusting video card program. Sure according to their TOS they have the right to ban a single program in their section 15. Addon Policy. However I have been told by their GMs this policy only covers Rift. If that's the case then either A.they cant ban the use of a single program in defiance, or B. they have to just outright ban thousands without a reason. that makes a lot of sense right? O_o\ So either the GM i spoke to was correct and that would mean banning thousands without reason is a legit move to the consumer from Trions legal departments perspective . Or that Section 15. Addon Policy Pertains to all games made by Trion as it currently implies being their primary corporate TOS.

Either way and put simply leaving those who wish to make their game more appealing for all alone, seems to be not just a huuge headache reliever but a good business move anyway.

As this thread is about Sweetfx lets keep it on topic and not discuss further Trions legal policies however out of touch with reality they may be..

    Thank you.

Also currently sweetfx is attracting people to Defiance if you don't believe it Google "Sweetfx" this thread is on page one of Google right now. Then chuckle to yourself as you realize this free little program is drawing pc gamers from all over to their game, and realize how bad a move in banning it would be. Not to mention its bringing them more business free lol!

So from a business perspective Ninjafada, Ceejay, and mysef all deserve and official thank you from Trion for busting our *** to increase their products appeal and their sales!

However were humble enough to just appreciate those were helping which is why sweetfx is there for all free to begin with.

Imagine that nice programmers writing programs for other people free because they themselves aren't @$$h0le$ i know hard to imagine right! O_o/

Sadly freeware is on the decline do to corporate greed and the little guys are having to try to scrape up every penny we can. It takes time and effort to write things like sweetfx but some people still write things free to all in our free time when we can.

I would like to add though, the quality or freeware has increased dramatically in the past few years due to layoffs of talented programmers and developers. Thus forcing major companies to lower prices to compete. However at the end of the day one could say companies prices could be higher and products could be better if they hadn't made major layoffs of skilled programmers. Then they wouldn't have to compete with cheaper better quality software. However that's a different topic all together.

Point being the future is freeware that improves user quality of corporate products will become the norm in the coming years. So either companies will fight it till they manage to destroy themselves and their reputation, through outlandish security measures. Or they will come to realize lots of this freeware makes people like their products more and is really a benefit to them.
They just need to be able to tell the difference between consumer add ons that boost enjoyment and ones that are malicious to others.

    That simple.

How is someone googling "Sweetfx" drawing "drawing pc gamers from all over to their game"? If someone is googling "Sweetfx" and sees an obscure forum post made on the Defiance forums, I'm going to take a wild guess and say they wont be jumping up and down shouting, "SWEET MOTHER, SWEETFX FOR DEFIANCE! OH BOY! I GOTTA PLAY THAT GAME NOW!".

Oh and I'm super positive Trion is furiously typing up that thank you letter to you and the others. That whole banning you thing was just a misunderstanding, I mean you are after all "busting our *** to increase their products appeal and their sales". Trion's art team that put their effort and time into the game they helped mold are simply smitten with your alterations to their work.

    (1) If you have no grasp of the pc gaming community or the massive amount of people using this freeware don't post.
    (2) If you cant read don't post.
    (3) If you cant understand anything you just read don't post.
    (4) If you post and cant do any of the above you will look like an idiot.

Your current post makes you look like an idiot, so reread mine then do some research, and try to look less like an idiot in your follow up post. That being said Trions art team i cant speak for, but any artist who would want all their work bleached down to hell and covered in heavy gray scaling, so that an outdated system could play it and have it look like crap would be upset. Sweetfx removes that so the art can really be appreciated. Its so people can truly see what the artists worked so hard to put into the game. As for thank yous we don't ask for anything in return Sweetfx is free to all however we appreciate anyone who enjoys what it does. I have made no demands of Trion to thank me or anyone else I just stated from a business perspective what this program does helps them, none of us truly expect a "thank you" that was sarcasm. Which leads us to

    (5)If you don't understand sarcasm don't post.

So seeing as you have next to zero grasp of anything going on here maybe its just best you don't post huh?

Get over yourself if you have nothing constructive to say then why post? The game should have most if not all the options that SweetFX has in it to begin with why doesn't it? Personally I think they had to rush it out because of the Syfy schedule for the show. Beta had more options I am sure it was causing some problems that would have taken more time to fix than they had time left so they chose to exclude them for now.

Myrken has stated he was banned legitimately so no everyone knows it wasn't a misunderstanding but we do know it had nothing to do with SweetFX.

So here is a big thank you to Doodoo for your excellent post!!!

Oh and i too have stated that they probably had to rush launch due to the SyfY schedule.

Also their devs and GMs at Trion have been busting tail to fix everything that's off from this seemingly rushed release and deserve props for their efforts and hard work!

Lulz almost forgot, copying or alterations to someone Else's work is the sincerest form of flattery.
As to do so means you enjoy someones work enough to stop and take the time to improve upon it, or copy it and not replace it with your own.

    Fun fact:
Did you know there's a massive market for collectors who only collect forgeries of famous art?
Why because the art itself was so good someone stopped to copy it!

The real problem we have as pc gamers is when developers are making a game for consoles be it cross platform or a port is that they are limited by the lower end hardware in the current consoles. The whole pc vs console thing is redundant as currently outlined here consoles are dinosaurs compared to today's gaming pcs. I had an xbox 360 in "high school!" and its still in use with minimal to zero hardware updates that's like trying to game on an non upgraded pc that's well over 8 years old!

    http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1430504..._engineer.html

This means the pc version of a game needs muuch more work than its console version.
Gotta love having that hardcore gaming pc and then being told by game companies to play games with 7-8 year old graphics.

To give you a real idea on a timeline of how huge a graphics gap that is on November 29, 2013
pong will be 41 years old! In 41 years we have gone from pong to crisis 3! 7-8 years in gaming is a massive gap in graphics!

Hardcore pc gamers build monsters to play the latest high end games yet companies still expect the entire pc gaming community to only play retro games and be happy with them.

It's a completely unrealistic view of gaming on the pc. I like retro games but if i want to play super Mario i can emulate it on a freaking toaster! lulz really my toaster has a nes controller plugged into it... one of those weird side projects you come up with while waiting for your toast. It even pauses the game when the toast pops up lol..

As it is a mmo it needs to have lower end graphics settings so a majority can play, this is well understood. However that does not mean the max settings should still be 7-8 years behind the curve in graphics for those who are up to date with modern hardware.

Anyone find it ironic how fast people replace cell phones but consoles seem to sit forever?
It used to be you replaced a console every 4 years look at the diff between ps1 and ps2 graphics for example. Now think xbox 360 and ps3 have doubled the replacement timeline. Today's graphics are so far beyond them its astounding if you know the hardware limitations on those machines.

    Want a visual reference? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPo8aycxWtM

and ps3 is as old as the 360!

Purpose of this was to explain why sweetfx is around now, and why it does what it does. Even with the huge detail boost you see with it, its nothing compared to what the game should look like. If companies were focused on bringing to the pc truly updated decent graphics and textures.

The point for me is that the graphics we got in the game don't live up to what was shown in the trailers.

Not a huge difference, but still noticeable. Or is it really just me?

i looked hard not much different but should they be better on pc no question. Also the huge use of that gray scaling and bleaching should be removable as pcs don't need it to help performance.

Whats funny tho is they edit the footage slightly using effects like sweetfx does too just no where as much the difference in texture detail gives it away slightly Lasse.

Watched it again Lasse some scenes the detail goes almost double from the game your right.

the big problem for gaming companies is that they aim for the ps3/xbox market because games sell much more than on pc and more gamers

to release the game in a good pc quality it will cost more, but the thing they use shaders in any game
so why not take a look at sweetfx, take the 3 4 main shaders, adapt the code to their need and add an option
don't tell me it's because of legal right, if you adapt the code it's not the same you are making a new fork like all the linux dev are doing

and they can even use them on xbox it's almost the same, with almost no gpu cost

the thing is since the glory era of game modding, (half life 1 2, etc ) adding content now is forbidden because they want to release DLC and nobody else

and the worst i can read is when talking about cheat/hack on a post processing injection, come on
it's like opening a screenshot in photoshop and using math on pixels

the guys from crytek are not that stupid they even use SMAA in their game crysis3, one of them helped with the SMAA 1X we are using in sweetfx
before that nvidia added the FXAA in their drivers, it was used previously with injectfxaa

with the future ps4 and xbox so close of a current pc, i hope we will get better console>pc port, and i hope too they will start to use those type of shader, they know how efficient they are, the gpu is made to use them

ps: sorry for my english , not my native language
