We killed all the Afflicted, burned their bodies, and found a cure.

I imagine that they'll probably bring afflicted back for Halloween, which is 'soon', and makes some sense.

They said when i asked a question to be answered in a live steam about Plague sieges returning and they respawned saying that it wouldnt be this month it would be coming back, but they are returning my guess is dlc 2
