You want to make the game more difficult for yourself?

Drop your perks. Equip white guns, preferably a magnum and a spanner. Put away the OJ nade and throw a white pyro in the load out. Replace your shield with a white rhino or tachyon. Do some sieges and DM majors. Hell, do your DM minor solo, and tell me it isn't challenging.

Sometimes you have to create the challenge yourself rather than rely on someone else to do it for you.

    My 2 cents

But all my money and time put into gathering good stuff only to play a different way now that is just mind boggling to me.

Simply turning mobs into bigger bullet sponges isn't the answer. As a matter of fact, that's the exact problem with the major ark falls and every mini-boss, they're bullet sponges with very predictable scenarios and patterns. Buffing or scaling their HP and damage does not make the game more challenging, it makes it more boring.

Those encounters need to be made smarter. Honestly, the best of the major ark falls is the hellion, because the symbiote is less predictable in it's attacks and moves. We need smarter big mobs... bugs overall should be the dumbest with Volge and Dark Matter being the smartest. Dumber factions should make up for that in volume.

You see some of this with Volge, Dark Matter, and even Raiders; they use cover and cover each other for shielding. That strategy doesn't pass up to the mini-boss and boss level though and it needs to. Bulwarks should be a focal point for other DM forces and Monitors should shield them like everything else. Monoliths shouldn't just stand there and take a pounding, they should be shooting and trying to step on players. Etc, etc, etc...

    Strategy, not bullet sponges.

*I try and use good weapons with low damage. But when theres loads of people there is just no point. Plus you wont get a high score compared to other players.

    As I posted earlier.

But now you're talking different semantics.

If you want the awe-inspiring challenge, points are needless. The "awe" and challenge are the reward and end-game.

It's a matter of choices. You purchased, with time and money, to make the game easier. Had you of not worried about obtaining the best gear in the game, I reckon, it would still be quite challenging for you. Alas, you did grind out for the best gear in the game.

Think about it like this. You started with a stick and a rock. The baddies were hard to kill. You adapted and and put the 2 tools together to make a better weapon. You were then able to kill easier and better weapons started becoming available. You jumped on them to get the kill faster and more efficiently. You "progressed" through the game getting better and stronger, until, the challenge was beaten.

Lolz. Actually, I am a rather upbeat person. I just view video games as a way to relax. If I wanted to challenge myself, I would prefer to do it in the real world. For example, have all my arrows hit the target on an extremely windy day, or take out everyone in the paint ball match with my practice knives.
The clock goes round and round.
    Where it goes nobody knows.
Except those few who don't try and loose.
The clock keeps ticking as fortune glooms.
Fore those who are loose with what they choose.
The clock keeps ticking over those bafoons while the watchful eye always looms.
