    xp cap wtf

Can someone explain to me the "logic" (wait this is Trion rephrase "reason") why @ approx 4k ego you stop getting xp. 5k ego is out of the question for many reasons for me if the only way to get there is pursuits I care nothing about, examples pvp , races and sniper hotshots that are not interesting enough to put the time in to complete. I have never played a game that limits xp like this one. I dont understand why you cant just grind your way up.. Most people that I have been playing with say they are not worried about it because they wont be playing that long to get there, but there are a few of us that for whatever reason keep coming back.

its true everyone caps somewhere around 4k then they are basically forcing you to do pursuits if you want to get to 5k but dont worry they are pretty much no benefits to going any higher anyway especially since it makes it increasingly more difficult to trade your gear

To the best of my memory from back then:
You stop getting combat XP after you buy (or have enough perk points to potentially buy) your last perk.
Challenges have their own XP. And stops accumulating at it's own max.
Hotshots have their own XP. And stops accumulating at it's own max.
PVP has it's own XP. And stops accumulating at it's own max.

The 5K (actually more than 5K with the episode pursuits included, but 5K is the display cap) is all of the above combined.

Remember 'Family Meal' menus at Chinese restaurants until the 70's?
Pick one from column 'A', and one from Column 'B', etc.
    No Substitutions....

Bonus Trivia: You can't get 'Watercress Soup' at Chinese restaurants, anymore, in my experience.
    These are just my opinions.
    I have lots of opinions.
Some of them, on occasion, people have agreed with.
I do not trust those people.

    NA/pc.
    2013:
Mid E-5XXX main, but I played 26+ 'toons from E400 to E5500. (Dormant)
    2050: Lvl 499X main

So, it doesn't matter if you "assign" said points to the perk grid? If you have the points to finish the grid, you no longer gain xp? We were talking about this the other night. If this is the case, I have a lot of points to assign! LOL

    Exactly.
I had my last 20 or so points accumulated and the yellow line disappeared as soon as I got that last perk point notice at the top of the screen.
The line turned grey, no longer moves (nothing to count up towards), and the on screen displays of 'critical hit' etc no longer appear.
    These are just my opinions.

The logic is that from 4000 to 5000 it's nothing more than a scorecard to cover how much of the game content you've mastered. If you're not interested in certain aspects of the game then why should you care? The last tangible bonus is at 4000 with the Ark Predator outfit and headgear.

I've heard that there was talk about raising the level cap from 5k. Any validity to this yet?

    Yes and no.
You left out 'potential' from your statement.
I'm E-45XX on main, with no Echelon pursuits, (0/X) in all Echelon categories, So my last box in EGO Evolution IV is yet unchecked.

Therefore: It's naturally possible, but not inevitable.

Just a detail, I'm not trying to find fault with your logic.

Why in the HELL does everyone complain in every Level progression game that "Omgwtf muh lvl b capped son? for realz??"

Of freaking course its going to be capped... EVERY GAME IS LEVEL/XP CAPPED... The want you to go after every aspect of Defiance so its going to be capped so that you have to do most of everything in the game to be "The best" you can be.

Theres almost always a Lvl increase DLC... Wait until DLC 3, i think it will turn up then. If it doesnt, DLC 4 will def have one. Its the natural progression of Lvling games... How they will achieve such a thing will be the real question.

Off topic: Anytime you want to talk Fallout 3, New Vegas, or lament over lack of news for 4, let me know...
