Yea i guess we will but Destiny bends the rules a little on what people usually count as an mmo, which will reduce the system and network requirements and should run more smoothly than defiance for that reason alone

"Bungie has avoided defining Destiny as being in-kind with traditional MMO games.[9] Instead, the game has been referred to as a "shared-world shooter,"[10] as it lacks many of the characteristics of a traditional MMO game. For instance, rather than players being able to see and interact with all other players in the game or on a particular server—as is the case in many conventional MMO games—Destiny will include on-the-fly matchmaking that will allow players to see and interact only with other players with whom they are "matched" by the game.[9]" From Wikipedia

Im Just saying with the latency in action RPGs (as a general rule) you point in the general direction and mash buttons (I know there is more strategy to it than that) a little latency loss isn't going to ruin the flow unless you need to heal or something.
In a fps/tps you have to aim then fire (unless you spray) which means latency and lag are much more detrimental

Yes FF XIV does run fairly well on the PS3 but it uses a completely different server architecture, one that wouldn't work for Defiance (or any shooter.) In FF XIV, when you enter a city, you're being transferred to a different server that runs ONLY the city environment. When you enter a story quest battle, or use the Duty Finder, you're being transferred to yet another server that runs ONLY that battle. They also use regular plain old servers with max capacities, if you and your friend create characters on different servers you're boned unless one of you starts over.

And let's not forget that when FF XIV first launched in 2010 it was a complete and utter failure. No end game, not much content, they had to pull it from shelves and stop charging players that had already purchased the monthly fee. Three years and a HELL of a lot of work later, they re-launched a much more refined and enjoyable game.

I'm not trying to detract from either game, I really enjoy them both for very different reasons but it's kinda crazy to think that FF XIV's server architecture could work for a shooter, especially one where we all need to just roll up on a random world event without being transferred onto a separate server running just that event.

ON TOPIC: I certainly hope Defiance makes it to the next gen consoles, the increased RAM and processing power would be a huge asset to the game, not to mention that the port would be from an x86 chipset (PC version) to other x86 chipsets (both next-gen consoles).

As long as the game and series survive another year, they will pretty much need to make the jump as by then a large enough portion of players will have made the move up to new consoles and it wouldn't be viable for them to NOT port it.

Thanks Angeleus09, its nice to see someone else who understands the tech behind the game, that's quite interesting about how FF works, also sounds expensive to run no wonder they need a subscription fee.
As a Gamer, Nerd and occasional tech head i sometimes disspare at how many gamers don't understand the tech and games they use daily.

Thanks I don't really "understand" it per se, I just learned the basics from one of the dev posts explaining why they were having trouble with the Duty Finder at launch. And you're right, it is expensive because for every named server they have, they actually have something like 5 or 6 servers to handle the different workloads of all the players playing in that World. I think they even said their chat system ran on it's own server.

(of course am not right and I know dam well the crybabies will complain to my comment, but who cares at this point)

There are a few bugs that all of us can live though, but the only ones we can't live though would be the ones that include lag, disconnection, and invincibility glitchers. Other than those 3 bugs, we shouldn't have no problems letting Trion go back to there work. Stop bombing Trion with all these complains; they only have a handful of employees left and the least we can do is not make them frustrated to a point where they don't know what to do anymore.
Personally I won't be purchasing any more DLC until the memory leaks on PS3 are resolved so I couldn't care less about them working on developing DLC. I've waited seven months so I can just sit back and wait for the fix to happen.

Disconnects, hard crashes, invisible mobs and terrain but primarily disconnects every 10-20 minutes mostly during Arkfalls and sometimes Volge Sieges.

Hmm could be poor programming, could be hardware limitations but im thinking that it could be the playstation network when you have a free online service that supports so much you are going to have issues,
mind you i have been less than happy with my xbox live service ever since they started there upgrade ive been having occasional disconnects and problems logging in, nothing serious enough to start writing to MS yet.

    Here's a link to a forum thread. http://forums.defiance.com/showthrea...bility-problem
Check out vizibledog's posts and you can see what PS3 users have been going through. I didn't mean to hijack this thread so this will be my last post here.

It will be a while before I can buy a PS4.
