Servers are currently down (at least for NA). Per Beta, any missions you completed, or any mission objectives you completed, will be saved. If you are mid mission or mid arkfall, you'll have to restart.
For those that are just starting, it is quite likely that after you complete the tutorial phase, and finish the first Cass mission (overloading the generator), you will get logged out after the cutscene and be unable to reconnect, or reconnect into an empty map of the generator area. This is due to high volume of people trying to log into the actual instance servers (separate from tutorial), just keep trying and you'll get in.

Day one or not... I don't pay 65.24 American dollars for it not to work!!! After the ridiculous patch wait time I felt reassured that nothing was going to happen. Cant even get into the server???? WHAT KIND OF BULL **** IS THIS? I UNDERSTAND BUGS AND GLITCHES FOR IN GAME BUT THE FACT IS WE CANT EVEN GET THAT FAR!!!!
