SCRIP MISSING: Taking to much?

I don't care if it was advertised or not. I would have assumed all's good with this new vendor that's appearing in game, especially if there were no warnings about it given after it was brought to their attention. Another factor at play was the limited availability of the EL vendor. You had to use it while it was there. I guess I'm lucky I wasn't online this weekend.

Also, I'm sure people did not set out to get as much stuff as possible just to sell back to the EL vendor, as this happens every single time there is a boost weekend. A lot of people farm gear to sell or scrap on boost weekends. That's typical behavior. If I was on this weekend, I'd be taking advantage of the boosts and selling my gear I farmed. If I heard a certain special vendor was paying more for it, I'd think 'cool' and go use it.

I should also point out that we don't know the full extent of what behavior is being punished, just the shield re-sellers or anyone that sold something to the EL vendor. At this point, we are all just making assumptions until we hear more about what exactly the offending behavior was.

Well, then I think it would be safe to say that had you severely exploited the vendor over the weekend, then you probably might have lost that scrip and gotten your 24 hour timeout. I am sure there are several players in the same boat - they just logged into the game minding their own business, don't go on the forums or look at the web site much, and suddenly, they come across a vendor that is offering untold riches (so to speak). So they go ahead, without questioning, and make a few million scrip off the vendor. Now they get their timeout and loose all the scrip. However, there is an old adage:

Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

It sucks to be them, but sometimes one has to learn a lesson the hard way. Now, perhaps in the future, when something like this occurs, they will question why the vendor is doing what it is doing and err on the side of caution until they are told it is either OK or not OK to do something. The school of hardknocks - it's not always a bad thing. And truth be told, this is a fairly light punishment - I have seen other games punish players far worse for much less.

That could be one of the very reasons why this punishment amounts to nothing more than a slap on the wrist. This is the first time that such a mass "wave" of bannings have really hit the game, or at least come to the forefront. As for all those people using other examples of what may or may not be exploits - that is up to Trion to decide, as well as what they will eventually do about it. Cry hypocritical all you want, but again, other games have done similar things in the past. So all it comes down to is play with common sense - when something appears to be different in game, perhaps you should question it first before blindly jumping in again .... and again .... and again .... and again .... and again .... see where I am going with this?

People speed when they are driving all the time. I know I do it (sometimes, not always, ahh well only once in a great while ;P), but what happens when I ... I mean they they finally get pulled over. They still get punished. Doesn't matter how many times they got away with it in the past, or how many people are speeding by while the cop writes you the ticket, you just have to accept the consequences of your actions, no matter how many times you got away with it previously. And just because millions of people get away with speeding every day doesn't give someone a free pass to go steal their neighbor's lawn furniture.

You know, this is nice to see they will punish cheats. You shouldn't have messed with the exploit in the first place. Sounds like a lot of upset over having been caught, when you thought how clever of an idea it was to earn all that free scrip. Oh well, seems sometimes you can't get away with everything.

Was the mistake theirs for leaving the exploit in the game ? Yes it was. The mistake was also the players for trying to exploit, knowing it was a mistake and expecting no punishment for it. Just my opinion.

Seems to me people got greedy and took the easy way to big bucks. Not really needed as with all the boos bonuses it was easy to farm loot in between EL vendor appearances. Cheaters never prosper.

Indeed. I too watched the livestream and it is not true. The vendor was placed in game specifically for the Extra Life event and for players to get unique items only available from that vendor. That was the sole purpose of the vendor. What happened here is that there was a glitch (aside from the spawning glitch) that allowed players to buy those items and then immediately resell them for a 1K profit each.

But the Extra Life vendor was also was purchasing gear from players at list prices instead of the diminished price that all other vendors offer. Was or wasn't this intentional? Did Defiance employees say repeatedly or otherwise while Live Streaming during the event that it was intentional and encourage players to sell their old gear to the Extra Life vendor at list prices? It's clearly been asserted earlier in this thread that this was the case.

Several people that sold gear (myself included) have stated that they sold gear and have had not lost scrip or gotten a ban.
I watched a lot of the stream but not all of it.
I never heard them state anything about the pricing for used weapons.
Nobody selling old gear seems to have been punished.
